This has been on my mind for quite a while, as I complete missions I notice things like "Bombing Exercise" or "Build Naval Defenses". Do these serve a purpose at all?

They provide you with some extra resources. If you don't have other missions to do at that time, you can do these, as anyway that doesn't disturbs anything else. |

It's the main "Exp supplier". Exp and resources from mission increase with your HQ level. At high level, exp from 1 mission is higher than from building 1 wonder.
