In fact, captured women are often not taken up by their captors but simply sold to the rich chieftains for weapons, horses, etc... Being the chiefest of all chieftains, it's not a surprise that Genhis Khan was the richest man of the Mongolian empire and could afford such a harem that would cost as much.

Wait, the Mongolians had harems? I mean I know they had similar things but a harem was more Ottoman

Lannes got a time machine, so now he's comptelating which era and place to travel to, all just so to get the best harem for himself much as possible. It's a probable theory.

Mongols and Chinese's kings had concubines Harems are more for Arabs, but even in Europe was a time when man could have more than one wife. It's still a very common concept in different incarnations and with different names of it. Even today in Africa it's still pretty common for a wealthy man to afford 3 wives or so. One of my college roommate was from Sudan and he explained that a qualtiy wife's dowry would ask for roughly 20,000 to 40,000 dollars worth of cattle or the cash equivalent. Most men would have one wife either because they're Christians or they can't afford additional wives.
