It'll be awkward when I start attacking France or something and I'm across the map... see that country stretching from Tunis to Morroco and even in Spain? That's me. Nice that's a strong country. Greece is part of me. Hmm, I am very revanchist, but perhaps you could conquer the eastern regions (such as Cicilean Armenia, small place around the gulf, Cyprus is pointing at it) and then let me take your western regions which offend me. Sorry Armenia, I love you but if its for the good of Byzantium. Actually, perhaps I can just beat you up a little and force you to migrate east. Fun fact: After the battle of Manzikert in 1071, historians consider the Byzantine Empire decisively struck, unable to prevent the Turks taking Asia Minor. Byzantium did reclaim some of it actually, and I consider your odds of killing me low. However I have to admit perhaps it is impossible to kill you as well. We are 2 Orwellian superpowers, unable to strike the decisive blow. I will draft a map of my planned conquests tomorrow. What would be done without annihilating you-OH DARN. Megali Idea. I wonder how many of these muslim countries call themselves a caliphate. Maybe just those 2. After the Muslim civil war, there has usually been competing Caliphates. You can call Jihad, but don't expect EVERYBODY to listen. Might be enough still. |

It wouldn't matter if he's Shia, he will support you if he knows what's best for him especially with the Crusades just waiting to happen. What does matter is whether if the NPCs listen or not, lol. that's the whole problem! And if they don't "comply" we can always force them to  . |

At the risk of empowering your scimitar, I will note that while Abbasid still owns Iraq, its power has declined, with countries like Seljuk Turk taking its other lands. I don't know if Abbasid can prevent random peasants in Iraq from joining you, but it won't be a massive competitor. |
