Thus far I've positioned my tanks and artilery in woods, dunes and what not. But is this better or worse for their performance. This obviously excludes skills which gives bonuses to those particular terains.
Also do those skills benefit you when you're attacking/defending and if you're on the tile or the enemy

When you tap on spot and see icons with shields - that means attack penalty for shown type of units, which are attacking from that tile or attacking unit, which stands on that tile. So when tak stands on mountain with -10% tank, it gets -10% to damage and when tank stands on plain and attacks unit which stands on mountain, it gets the same penalty too. Skills are effective only when attacking unit stands on required type of terrain.

Honestly did not know it worked both ways, thought it was only damage from the unit on non-plain. Makes a lot more sense though, the both ways.

I discovered it when was investigating how shield penetration works. Not sure if two penalties stack (when attacking from one mountain to another), but for sure both tiles can affect damage.

So as I get from you, standing on a non-plain tile reduces the attack of both your troops and the enemy.
This simply means it takes longer to kill each other (assuming the defender can retaliate when attacked)

Standing on non-plain reduces your damage only by losing plain fighting bonus. So unit standing on non-plain tile receives defence against art and tanks as written on shields and that's it. All other damage penalties occur because of losing plain fighting bonus or enemy's level.

It works that same as installations in EW4. It protects against damage.
(i.e. being on a tile that has -10% inf, you take -10% dmg from inf. So 100 dmg would become 90.)
