Does anyone have trouble with a certain website called comumx hijacking this website? I searched around, and it seems to be an ad that hijacks forums and news sites by insta-redirecting. Report the ad to PB using the report ad tool. I did it when it hit me. saltin, could be good to report this certain site to PB staff

Edit: it doesn't seem to come up with Opera Mini's adblocker in place.

Fun fact: I wrote "Deustchland uber alles" and a classmate wrote "Heil Hitler" on the class whiteboard. "Heil Hitler" gets erased but "Deustchland uber alles" does not. Just goes to show... something.

You have been served a bad advertisement for sure, a redirect ad.Please use the [Report Ad] found at the bottom of every page so the PB staff can pull it out of the system.Pay close attention to the time of the ad events so you report the correct ad. I made a Report thread covering this issue in case it happens to more members.

Some of the things that go on here tend to add a large amount of unneeded stress to my life, so I'm going to be less active than usual. I'll keep work on my mods and keep the same effort I put into coaching the BR mod team, but I won't be in the Lounge as often.

WW1 RP? still need the Serbian 1901 turn (along with turns of other countries)

I made a Report thread covering this issue in case it happens to more members. Reporting a redirect ad is difficult to pinpoint properly because you have to exit to stop the harassment, then go back to a page anywhere in this forum to click on "Report Ad" then try to figure out which ad on the list is responsible. The redriect ad will often spin you around (as in refreshing the page and nakes it messy to go through the history). Do you see why it's better for you to directly talk to ProBoards about this serious problem rather than relying on members reporting it? It definitely has happened to me maybe a dozen times per quarter (3 months) and I'm a member of this forum for a little over a year, so it's probably slightly under 50 times in total for me. I've reported more than half of those (with some hit and miss) and ProBoards' automated system told me that I was just making it up in my head basically once or twice even "there was no ad to report." This is the ONLY website that I have encountered that kind of a fraud "you have a virus on your Android, blah blah" in the last 12 months. (Although, I haven't used any other ProBoards forum during that time, so my sample size is certainly small). For any other websites besides the ProBoards, I have yet to see this particular ad.

Hi Desophaeus, Using the report tool vs talking to pb staff: I can assure you they much prefer for you to use the [report add] automated system rather than communicate with them directly which almost always results in them asking you to use the tool anyways.Talking to them about the problem accomplishes nothing nor does it help them solve the problem any faster than via the automated [Report tool]. Difficulty reporting ads:It is difficult to report a redirect ad in the middle of the event yes but usually you eventually can get a break at some point and be able to track it down to a time frame and report it. Frequency of the event: Some members are much more susceptible to it then others, factors influencing this is mobile and certain networks. Many members never experience this problem while others are not so lucky. proboards response: has been proven to work and has been effective at removing (but not preventing)these ads. As mentioned before PB host millions of sites, they wouldn't be in business today if they werent able to respond to (most of) their customers need. I have personally used the report link a couple times and the issue ads were solved very quickly.I agree though it is a frustrating process and never a final solution. How common has redirect been in other sites: Imgur, the AP, NBC, Hearst properties, various newspaper sites and blogs, eBay, Perez Hilton, SomethingAwful, WeatherUnderground, TwitPic, Cheezburger.com, Slickdeals, Twitchy, NHL, ten of thousands of other forums and many others website have in the past or are currently experiencing this issue. There is nothing unusual or unique about our forum.

Np, saltin. I just wanted to let you know that it's a problem more serious than it had sounded at first. And yes, my sample size is certainly small as I said, so it's not reliable to extrapolate to the rest of the internet, lol. I'm just stating that in my small sample of using various websites within the last 12 months, I have only experienced that ad in here (but I did had bumped into a similar ad a couple of years ago, don't ask me where because I don't remember! Lol). I hardly have time to cruise the sites out there since I'm busy in RL.

There are no aliens in EW5... is Easytech feeling well again? Easytech sometimes gets bad feedback about this but honestly their action and initiative was logical and to the point imo. Aliens was essentially a free dlc,an upgrade to the game.Gaming companies very often charge for anything and everything extra, they did not, so that's cool. Aliens were added because many players essentially finished the game too early. While the game was brutal to new players it was basically too easy for the many hard core fans and pro-players who knew the in depth game mechanics. Easytech had to quickly come up with a good plan to add content to these players and they also had to ramp up the difficulty so as to make it a stronger more lasting challenge. At that point and no matter what model ended up being selected it would have been hard to explain the much harder content or to maintain the old theme anyways so they decided to introduce a new actor:the aliens. I understand the sci-fi theme may have been somewhat of a challenge for some players to accept but to me it was close to a perfect (practical) solution that focused on fixing their biggest problem "I finished the game too early". Personally had ton of fun with the aliens, it made the game last a lot longer too.

I am with you on this and the pb admins and tech support folks have gotten plenty of negative feedback from me and other admins on this issue. It is not just that it is a frustrating experience it's actually costing us membership and affecting growth. While most members that may experience the redirect just shrug it off and find ways around it some never bother to come back after a browser hijack despite the fact that they otherwise liked the site, the members and the content.
