A few comments here look like as if I'm in the phycology department.... @coolguy14 kill the lead female character. Or something close to her I've thought about that. I just don't know which female. well I did write "lead" female. Say, kill the villain and then make him alive again?

I've thought about that. I just don't know which female. well I did write "lead" female. Say, kill the villain and then make him alive again? Nah... I think the main character dies enough to make that seem useless. Also one of the main villains is a ghost... And the main main villain dies in the third book, but then at the end, you find out it was a decoy.

One of my biggest plot twists is that a main character is a main villain. Maybe I should just try to figure it out later...

Some legit brainstorming for y'all: I originally created this thread to get ideas for my 2nd novel... Instead I accidentally started Bismarck pigs... Anyhow, better late than never, am I right? I'm having a major writing crisis. As I continue to write the first novel, I keep on feeling the urge to include secrets I was going to include in the second. Now I'm beginning to run out of "twists" for my 2nd novel. Anyone got any ideas for twists? Make a companion of the protagonist seem like a villain, but proves him/herself not to be one... until he/she stabs the protagonist at the end. Have an object which turns out to have no use in the end, but make the reader believe it's a Chekhov's Gun, and when a character takes note of said object, they treat it as important.

At the end, if you want a double twist, make the object kill a villain in the most anticlimactic way possible just after the reader finds out the object is useless (E.g. make the villain drop it, trip on it and smash his head on a rock)

Man I'm glad I don't trust any of you with my life. You're all about death, fake identities, and betrayal. I was expecting everyone to say stuff like pregnancy or someone is cheating on someone else... I'm scared now!

I'd say when it comes to twists it is used extremely often.

When in doubt, kill them all! As for writing stuff... I suggest you read something random from this: www.seventhsanctum.com/www/wwwfull.htmlWarning... it will make you feel embarrassed about your feeble attempts in building up the background of your world for your characters to live in. It did really show me how badly I was doing it, myself too. I'm glad it's still up. I first stumbled across this archive maybe 12 years ago. It's extremely old... the articles came from 1999 to 2000, so it's very old.
