For those of you who use the internet and don't know its full form. It means INTERnational NETwork. Not "INTERnal NETwork" Lol that is not the original meaning of this term originally meant internal network, because there were external network as well when companies connected their servers(mostly huge computer rooms) in between, term international network became known only when first trans-Atlantic cable was made in 1990-ties.

Btw fun fact access type layout module www is used only in 45-50% of all webpages, as wap and m uses 30% and the other 20-25% are either unpopular or rare access types. Note access type layout module only states the way you want to view accessed web page.

For those of you who use the internet and don't know its full form. It means INTERnational NETwork. Not "INTERnal NETwork" ....so? Really, so? America has 320 million people (250 back then), and willingly helped spread this technology. In what world is taking credit for what you literally did, or had a large part in, playing the isolationist anti-globalist? ARPANET was ultimately US government controlled, even though it spread to civilians. It was later discontinued and the internet went fully commercial. THATS when it became non-internal, not when it reached China. I guess I am ignorant, but I'm not even sure about that etymology you just did. The first definition that pops up on google for its origin is: 1970s (denoting a computer network connecting two or more smaller networks): from inter- ‘reciprocal, mutual’ + network. Which makes total sense. Most other words that starts with Inter simply means connected, not international. BTW ARPANET falls under that definition. 2 and more smaller networks connecting, check.

I said I read that World wide web is the most popular, though you make a valid point for its share not being overwhelming. If the other 25% is unpopular.... World wide web might as well have a 75% share (ignoring wap and m logically increasing) Anyway, what I read was that the majority of connected humans use www, not that most webpages do, though you (me) would assume that I guess. Thanks for info!

Can't you see it was to the guy who was saying that internet means internal network? I wrote it to him. Next time before you post a 7+ paragraph rant (or basically a speech) do check whom you're replying, even if it is the right guy or not.

Yes, I see who you were replying to, honestly its possible you are both wrong (though he seems knowledgable, not that you aren't of course) I guess I spoke out of turn, but I've been active in this thread, and have been inconvenienced for the last 8 or so hours by this bittersweet thing called "sleep" Anyway, I guess you were just correcting him, but I find the insistent tone of your sentence to be dismissive in a way I abhor. I apologize if it was a just a benevolent correction on your part, and I mis-interpreted.

I apologise for my action, buy you had quoted something that I had written like six hours ago and I didn't know back then that you were asleep. But you just jumped in with small "thin paragraphs" and quoted me even though the other guy should've been quoted. Bleh, whatever. What's done is done

Another interesting thing about this internet topic is the web browser. I doubt most of you guys are old enough to remember the internet in the early 90s. I remember Netscape, the first highly successful browser, it was basically an upgrade from Mosaic the first true grpahic-capable browser (as opposed to a hideous mess). Mosaic was invented in... America. Without Mosaic, the World Wide Web would never have got spreaded out so far, certainly not without a viable accessible program.
Another American invention that made the World Wide Web viable was the server (computing type) which was originally made first for ARPANET then later was incorporated into CERN's project and Tim Berners-Lee had to even use an American computer to be a sorta of a modified server as the first web server host for the World Wide Web.
There's definitely more to the concept of Internet than just a bunch of wiring and motherboards. Interestingly that the WWW was just a small portion of the internet at first untill graphical interfaces like Netscape were created and then followed by the spead of ISP's like AOL. The foundation work of the internet was apparently started in the 1950's in 3 countries US/UK/France. OOT: Also guys remember: 3 posts in a row without anyone else posting in between these 3 posts is poor form, better is to just edit a second post and combine it with a 3rd.Netiquette (which was invented way after the internet) demands we dont blast a thread with a deluge of monologues no matter how we feel about it. Dont make me use the [Delete] button I know you hate having posts disappear just the same as I hate making them disappear

Could tag them, but that would be bad, nobody know what you are talking about. Anyway, I'd rather be warned BEFORE the post is deleted, personally Delete it afterwards, and offensive posts that are indisputable should be instantly deleted, or moderated.

If I wanted to respond to 4 people in one post then here's how I'd do it: 1) open up a new tab so you can review the individual's post 2) begin writing: @x- blahblahblahbkah @xx- blah blah blah blah blah @xxx- blah blah @xxxx- blah Because one person posting multiple times with nothing in between doesn't look right, see?
