Another interesting thing about this internet topic is the web browser. I doubt most of you guys are old enough to remember the internet in the early 90s. I remember Netscape, the first highly successful browser, it was basically an upgrade from Mosaic the first true grpahic-capable browser (as opposed to a hideous mess). Mosaic was invented in... America. Without Mosaic, the World Wide Web would never have got spreaded out so far, certainly not without a viable accessible program.
Another American invention that made the World Wide Web viable was the server (computing type) which was originally made first for ARPANET then later was incorporated into CERN's project and Tim Berners-Lee had to even use an American computer to be a sorta of a modified server as the first web server host for the World Wide Web.
There's definitely more to the concept of Internet than just a bunch of wiring and motherboards. Interestingly that the WWW was just a small portion of the internet at first untill graphical interfaces like Netscape were created and then followed by the spead of ISP's like AOL. The foundation work of the internet was apparently started in the 1950's in 3 countries US/UK/France. OOT: Also guys remember: 3 posts in a row without anyone else posting in between these 3 posts is poor form, better is to just edit a second post and combine it with a 3rd.Netiquette (which was invented way after the internet) demands we dont blast a thread with a deluge of monologues no matter how we feel about it. Dont make me use the [Delete] button I know you hate having posts disappear just the same as I hate making them disappear Www is nothing meaningful, it is just a fashion thing so people shouldn't have to remember a lot of these, http/fps... as a protocol does...

This is untrue. Not all websites use www. In fact, some don't even have a domain name. Alot of old schoolers still use only IP adresses to go to websites. Yeah, you can use an IP adress to go to a website, just type it into the adress bar.

Of course you can use IP, but it is harder for people who has no deeper knowledge or who aren't LINUX daily users(if you use shell commands, then you may be using IP addresses over HTTP/FTP...

The WWW has an estimated 4.5 billion pages according to www.worldwidewebsize.com and that's just the search engines indexable content. Obviously It's an extremely important source of knowledge for a very large numbers of human beings as well as institutions, academia and commerce.

Obviously It's an extremely important source of knowledge for a very large numbers of human beings as well as institutions, academia and commerce. Well there is no difference if you use www ref desk m wap or anything else as identifier of view it doesn't change anything important, www is just the most popular type of referencing to desktop view, btw a lot of providers make their web pages not with www.xx.kk/games they make something like this games.xx.kk/ and it is automatically routed to desktop or mobile or tablet view differing on where the page is made to be viewable for example games section most likely will be a desktop section on most websites, although there is another type of easy access type like news.kk.xx/ this will automatically find which device you use and if it won't be able to get information from your browser you will be asked in which format you want to view it for example news.kk.xx/desktop or news.kk.xx/tablet ... It is endless variation and it is completely web devs decision how the page is made. I could make a web page which would be trouble.my.web/gettype?!&keep+browsing And only I would know which part references to which files in which folders(yes that all is folder subsystem based on html and server access)
