The RP Dictionary

So I've become aware that many members, including some of our staff, are baffled by some of our terms. Here's a dictionary

RP: Any of the forum games played here. Most revolve around historical wars. RP normally means Role-Play, but we apply the term loosely.

TW: Theoretical Wars. A particular type of RP. Invented by Ivan Kolev . Once widely-played, they have fallen out of favor in recent months.

Dip: Diplomacy. A board game invented by Allan Calhamer, set in WWI. Popularized here by Desophaeus .

Alternate History/Storyline: Another type of RP, introduced more recently by Ivan Kolev .

Salt: Deeply emotional arguments stemming from RP's which often see members lose all sense. Someone involved in salt is said to be salty.

GM: Game Master. The guy running the game. Global Moderators should be referred to as GMods in this context to avoid confusion.

RP Executive Officer: A non-moderator member tasked with helping Game Masters run their games, particularly with logistics and salt.

Mods: Moderators. The people who can edit and remove posts, or lock threads. You should generally listen to them but talk to them if you think they're wrong. The RP mod is best75.

GMod: Global Moderators. They're like Mods, but they have power everywhere and can ban too. Each has a section he focuses on, but we're all everywhere. The current GMods are kanue, Mountbatten and Erich von Manstein

Map: A graphical representation of the situation within the RP. Members are very much fond of them.

Techs: In some games, you must develop in order to gain some advantage. For this, you will invest some commodity (may be time or money) to develop techs, which allow it.

RP Enthusiast: A group of members who have been GMs, or who have played in many RPs. The election for leaders is currently taking place. You may apply if you feel that you are qualified to join it. It entails no special privilege.

OP: Overpowered. Unlike in its gaming context, this term in RP has a negative meaning. It refers to an unrealistically powerful move that defies logic and the rules.

Godmodding: Saying what another player's country does during that player's turn. This is absolutely never allowed.

BP: Battle Power. A number used in the TWs to denote an army's strength

Maf: Forum Mafia, a classic classroom game around the world.

Roles: In most games, you play as someone, or a country(In the case of Alternative Histories). Within the thread, you speak for your role.

OOC/IC: Out Of/In Character, in some games, you must state whether you are OOC/IC to avoid confusion.
