Can anybody answer me why many general portraits look almost or entirely identical? For example Nunziante and Rowland are indistinguishable unless you see their troops' country. Also with others like Sacken and L'estoq. Please someone correct me if it is just my wild imagination or explain why is this ?

They just looked similar in real life. After all, people usually do like similar besides a few features.

Why? Edit: Nvm it's already been moved I see. The portraits are similar simply because creating 150 of them is time consuming. So simply reuse the template and throw a different flag on it and voila, a new general.

Prussian and Russian identical twins. Well....Catherine II the Great was Prussian, and several Russian Generals of the early 1800s were German descended, such as the one here. Not super surprising, other than that they aren't actually twins...or are they :0 Edit: plus the Germans in Russian military were Baltic Germans. If I had to guess what the closest type of German is, I'd say Prussian.

I was going to say those were the good old days, but then I remembered that several Soviet generals, including at least 2 Marshals, were non-Russian. Including Bagramyan, the first non-Slavic Marshal. He was Armenian. And of course there is Joseph Stalin, who was Georgian. Hitler was not from Germany, but could call himself German and be correct. Not so for Stalin.

Also if you have both Arnold and Scharnhorst(my case), you can swap their portraits quickly and then you notice only clothes and hat are different. I am sure this i the case with many other generals too
