All of ET's games that are 4X strategy are made on the same engine, just different versions 1. Easytech makes Strategy games. 4X games have more complex systems than normal strategy games, usually involving control of all aspects of an empire, expansion into a unexplored territory, an detailed diplomacy system, and a better economy than simple gold-metal-food style econs in stuff like Starcraft and AoE2. I'd argue that Easytech's first 4X game was EW5, though if you want to argue technicalities GoG Europe conquest can also be technically considered one. 4X is turn based strategy, rts is real time strategy, those are strategy genres.

Not all 4X are TBS. Also, 4X games can only be applied to games after EW4 IMO.

Of course; I played WC2, EW3, and I found an copy of EW1. I have actually played them all and most of them have elements of 4X Yes, elements, but that doesn't make them fully 4X. It's like saying FTL is a roguelike--it has elements of roguelikes, but that doesn't make it one. Or saying that my online nation Transfermium should be allowed to go into the UN because it has 'elements of a nation'.
