OOC Antonio Santa AnnaYour new name is the most beautiful thing I've seen all day. Or technically it's the first, since it's about 1 AM. I prefer the former. But I don't know why I never thought of that. I praise you, good sir. Thread derailed. But it was worth it. Carry on!

Surely the Pun King won't mind... (But enough derailment. On with business, men.)

Since the Dual dice rolls, done by ME, were so great I'll just say the Indiaman stays out of the fight for now. Bolitho leads the Gunners in one more broadside. OsAEH0ywThe close-in Broadside is devastating, the very ship convulses with the many blows. Rolling for whether it is disabled. The French ship is incapable of movement, among other problems a mast has fallen, crushing some Frogs. The British Frigate prepares to target the Indiaman. Rolling for what it does now. The captain of the Fake Ceylon turns his ship away, and we attempt to chase it down. Firing chasers One more attempt. I'll say it needs a 5 to escape. It turns and fires a light broadside. The Broadside is extremely deadly despite its size. We lose men along our front, and movement is deteriorated. Rolling for what it does now. Oddly he decides to board us. Our ships are close together now. *rolls for how well he *docks** They attempt a broadside just as they connect. Not really successful. We council the Marines, and deliver a landlubbers Broadside. A few French boarders fail to board as they are mowed down. Many more take their place though, and the fight is on. Bolitho aims his pistol as it begins. The Swirling melee takes slightly more French than it does British. Laurence barely hits a Frenchman, and is soon swept into the melee as just another sword. The British are being pushed back, but barely. Both sides commit what reserves they have, with even a cook joining the fight, oddly. The British are now being swept from the deck. Lets see what happens when Richard aims a blunderbuss? He mows down FOUR Frenchmen, and Bolitho sees his chance. He Rushes the enemy captain, but is stopped by the first mate. Its knives vs the Sword. ····································

The First mate is being overpowered, but continues to fight back. JUjj0KJdHe stabs Bolitho, and prepares for the killing blow. He fails to land it, and is thrown to the deck by a nearby explosion. Byz's metal is interrupted by the same ad for love songs for the THIRD TIME. Byz leaves the ad on for over 2 minutes as this is more importante Lets see how the overall fight is going. The British are still being forced back. The British Captain issues the call to surrender. Lets see if he is obeyed. Ok whatever, nobody hears him. Gunfire sweeps the deck as the British attempt to hold onto it. ············

The gunfire is ineffective due to the few able to deliver it.
I guess we surrender after all ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Rolling for whether Laurence makes it.
He0B8QeA
He either bleeds out, or is stabbed through by a sword. It is said to be the second.
So ends William Laurence Bolitho. So goes his clan, with his 2 brothers having died before him.
The British Frigate loses at least 150 men, while French losses are somewhat greater due to the devastated Frigate and heavy fighting in the boarding of Ceylon by Ceylon.

The British are in quite a bad spot, so I'm playing Rowley-ex-machina...
[Cabin-HMS Boadicea] Captain's Log - 13 September
Our reinforcements have come. Africaine had arrived from Madras, and went off in pursuit of some French vessels. Ceylon? The world wonders. Still, they worry me - Africaine had not returned. Sounds of battle had rocked my cabin only a few minutes ago. It seems we must act.
-Commodore Josias Rowley
Rowley walked around nervously around the cabin. On his table sat letters from Captain Corbet of the Africaine and Captain Gordon of the Ceylon, ensuring that help would come. Rowley looked at the map-they wouldn't have gone far. The Africaine wouldn't have gone far, yet he did not hear anything from them. He prayed under his breath for the Africaine's safety, adjusted his dress, picked up a spyglass, and walked out. [Quarterdeck] "Lieutenant Lloyd! Any news on the Africaine?" Rain had set in on the quarterdeck, and he had found Lieutenant Edward Lloyd commanding the helm. Clearly surprised by such question, Lloyd responded, "I've not heard anything nor seen anything, sir."
Rowley was distraught by the response. He had wanted to rush in to the storm to find Africaine, but he remembered Cape Finisterre; a melee would not do well for him. The Africaine needed to be seen, or he'd have led the Boadicea on a wild goose chase.
"Then climb the mast, Lieutenant! I'll take the helm."
Lloyd quickly scurried without response. He did not go for long, however.
"Sir! What're those clouds of smoke?"
Rowley instantly looked over that direction with his spyglass, seeing a fire and two French flags. It seemed the worst had happened - the Africaine on fire.
"Lieutenant Lloyd! Get the boatswain! Tell him to fetch rope, canvas, planks, and a party of his best repairmen!"
The Lieutenant nodded in assent and ran off to the bosun. Still, he still needed to deal with a possible fire.
"Lieutenant Robb! Prepare a boarding party and fill up what buckets we have with water! The Africaine is on fire."
Robb did the same, and went below decks to fetch men. Rowley gave command of the Helm to the Pilot, and yelled at the crew:
"Men, our brothers are threatened, the Africaine ablaze. Go to your stations! Any man loitering around shall have twenty whips in the morrow."
Rowley climbed down the stairs, and ordered the remaining Lieutenant to fetch midshipmen and take command of one half of the crew immediately. The other would be commanded by Rowley himself, while the Helmsman steers the Boudica. Rolling for arrival speed.
wWYBtW5G
The Boudica arrived in the dead of night, to find the Africaine's upper deck burning and most of its mast bar the mizzen mast burning. As ordered, Robb's party tries to deal with the fire on the upper deck. Roll for result.
The fire on the upper decks in controlled. Onto the lower decks! Rowley tries to save as many as possible and control the fire.
The fire is uncontrollable, and anyone left below decks dies. Last effort to deal with the fire.
The fire is controlled. Looking over the burnt bodies in the Africaine, Rowley burns with anger - any Royal Navy officer who would have done that would have been hanged. The French savages dare burn a ship with men inside. Rowley orders a proper funeral to all of them dead.
Rolling for repairs.
Africiane is for now fixed, but we certainly need material, that we do not have.
Rowley v. Hamelin, saving Ceylon.
Captain's Log, 19 September
Africaine is safe, though battered and missing a crew. Nothing has come from Ceylon, and we intened to find him with the Frigates Otter and Staunch
Part of the Boadicea's crew has been relegated to manning the Africaine. Rowley, knowing that something is afoot looks at the horizon with his spyglass. Spotting roll.
A 13. Only by a bit the Venus and Fake Ceylon are spotted. "Helm! prepare for raking fire on the Venus!" ordered Rowley. Sure enough, the sail and wheel moves to cross the Venus' T. Roll for success. 7?
The Boadicea successfully manuevers into raking fire. Hope the guns are properly loaded, because fire!
vs.
(OOC: yes, 1 dice. Because in raking fire, I have my full broadside to bear while they only have chasers in the front).
With the Venus heavily damaged, Rowley boards the ship. For Britannia! More dice, more successful boarding.
Into success. Rowley tries to capture Commodore Hamelin. First, he takes a shot. Roll for success.
Hamelin is shot in the sword hand and captured. Let's see how well Otter and Staunch goes. Otter v. real Ceylon, Staunch v. fake Ceylon
Otter
Staunch
Ignore last dice. Staunch iz well, Otter is in a bit of a bad state. A skelton crew is left in the Venus, and we rush to the real Ceylon. Seeing the shortage of supplies, Rowley decides to board immediately. Roll.
Is success. Entire squadron captured.
[Deck - Bolitho's body]
Josias Rowley looks at the bodies of the Ceylon's crow. One of them is familiar to Rowley, with his Scottish features obvious. Bolitho?
"Men, here lies a brave man. A bright man, a charming man. One rarely gets a charming companion at sea, and he has died fighting for King and Country. Give them all a proper funeral, and avenge them."
Rowley looks at Bolitho's body, and closes his eyes in final rest.
Rowley, the Sweeper of the Seas
(OOC: can Bolitho have Sean Bean's face? Imperial RomeBall seems fitting for a guy that dies, gets resurrected, and dies again)
Okay, I didn't Rowley to be this OP. Now, last Event:
Invasion of Ile de France:
Rowley, now with 12 frigates and an infantry force, sieges Ile de France, where the Astree and Minerve are based (The Spanish Inquisition, Antonio Santa Anna, best75). You can escape, fight, or surrender. I expect player to player interaction though.
Hamelin is captured along with his force, so consider the odds you're against.
Anyway, Imperial RomeBall, plox into create another character. Richard the Scot? ·················································

Bad news. Hamelin along with his force are captured. We only have a few frigates stationed in Ile de France against the enemie's 12 that are coming. I send a message to the Astell ( The Spanish Inquisition) and the Astree ( Antonio Santa Anna) informing them of our dire situation and asking them what to do.

I say we make a tactical withdrawal with whatever prizes we can get out of port. We don't stand a chance without reinforcements.

The Astell leaves behind some crewmen to sail the prizes, then heads out of port. She takes up a position nearby, to slow down the British if they show up. We expect that the Astree ( Antonio Santa Anna), Minerve ( best75) and the prizes will all sail out, and we keep watch so we can vacate our position at top speed once they do

I think capturing any british ships will prove too risky as the other british ships will fire on us or board us while we fight. If we are going to escape I say we blast our way out of the port, just crippling or destroying any british ship we come across.

My plan is to take those ships and get out
