Let's talk about sports choke and which one is the worst one Golden state blew 3-1 to Cleveland 2016 Atlanta blew 28-3 to the New England Patriots To be honest... in football, momentum is king. So even for closely matched teams, sometimes on a good or bad day (depending on your perspective!), an even match can devolve into a total blowout that's hard to stop and turn around. Basketball is different... it's easier to lose a lead during a game (granted... it shouldn't apply to multiple games within a series if the teams are lopsided matched). I would say that in football, there is no excuse for blowing a lead, but conversely in basketball, there's no reason why a lagging team can catch up from far behind.

If you look at it in hindsight, Atlanta probably won't be getting back to the super bowl anytime soon, while the Warriors are about to win a championship anyway. So Atlanta definetely has it worse.
