Actually that light cav is better because: 1. higher health. 2. faster speed. 3. higher output. 4. closer to Austro-French battlefield. Seriously higher health & output? I think a double light cav only gives 115 health and 1-8 att. I agreed on point 2 & 4. That beginning heavy cav only has single formation, thus its health is 100, lower than 115. And for the damage, double light cav is 1-48(avg=24), heavy cav is 3-40(avg=20).

Erich von Manstein I don't use the light cavalry because on turn one you have 2 generals attacking it. I also use the single formation heavy cav

If you move your guy out of town and move AugustI to the river and he'll be left alone. Single Heavy Cavalry's only strength is the ability to bypass the Rhine front completely and go through North Italy and Marseille

If you move the unit out, then Weilburg will be captured. They can only reach it on Round 2 You still have to spend money to defend it

For me, I do not wait to build a good cavalry unit for my general. I just put my general on the single formation heavy cavalry that I have from the beginning because the damage output is not that different but I can move a few rounds earlier. This is up to player's preference though. And you do not need Lasalle for the elite cavalry role. Any decent cavalry general is fine given that you have Warhorse and Snare Drum. I used untrained Sakurako to get Lan. Actually that light cav is better because: 1. higher health. 2. faster speed. 3. higher output. 4. closer to Austro-French battlefield. Yeah, that is true. It was very long ago that I ran HRE98 and not much was known so my choice back then was a single formation heavy cavalry which was not an optimal one.

It has one advantage: You can send it through Northern Italy and bypass the Rhineland.

It has one advantage: You can send it through Northern Italy and bypass the Rhineland. Which is useful and useless as this isn't WC3 and conquering all enemy cities isn't enough
