For beginners, I would highly recommend the classic Messe-Leeb combo. After you get enough medals you should aim for Guderian, then Rommel. If you can't get through Rommel's last mission, I recommend Graziani before Rommel (Graziani is actually great, you can check my review in the "Graziani" discussion).
As for the medal hunting tips: do every daily invasions (twice a day), clear all stages of scenario (3 stars if you can), do conquests and receive medals, complete challenges, and never trade medals for resources. You will medals rapidly.
In the early cold war you must equip all generals with rumor (at least lv 1 or 2). And then buy Rokossovsky and Konev (also with rumors). Rumors are very vital (especially in the end games). By the time you get Rokossovsky/Konev you can fire Messe. Aim for Doenitz (if you can afford to buy) or simply Kuznetsov and then Nimitz (although not recommended). As for me, I bought Doenitz as my first navy (check out my Doenitz review in the "Doenitz" discussion).
By now, you should not go wide any further, you have to upgrade your generals (with rumor as well). The next is up to you, as for me, I bought Arnold for airforce.
Soon I will make reviews in depth on all purchasable HQ generals. You can keep checking it daily if you want to follow my explanations.

Hello! I have made quite a lot of progress since the last time I've posted something here but there's still something I ignore : what happens if you choose to reset a certain skill on a general? Do you get the medals back?

Do you get the medals back? You get 80% refund. So if you think it is important, do it.. btw may I know whoose and what skill you want to exchange?

Oh it's not too bad then I guess. I was thinking about doing it for Nimitz since I put the Airforce Leader skill on him whereas it turns out I'm mostly using him on cruisers and not on aircraft carriers. But I'm still not sure if i want to do it or not

Give him rumor for now, it is up to you to exchange his air force leader or give him rumor in the new slot first. But in the end, you won't need his airforce leader..

Well actually he already has lvl 3 rumor so I think I'm going to reset the air force leader skill and use the medals I get from it to push rumor to lvl 5. What would you recommend as a 2nd skill for him though?

Yeah, welcome back old friend Sun vs Bing. oops I mean explosive vs Wolfpack as second slot for Nimitz additional skill I'm not strict on wolfpack either (as it is pretty expensive), but I wouldn't like to give explosives because it limits your general's capability to fort-cracking purposes only. My other option would be to leave it empty as it doesn't matter that much for navy. I'm a bit flexible in navies though, but pretty strict on ground.

What would you recommend as a 2nd skill for him though? If you don't have any air commanders yet, I guess you can keep the air force leader a bit longer. However if you want to exchange it for medals, I would recommend either wolfpack, explosives, or depot ship. They don't matter that much though..

Thank you for your answers Bing, Jibon and Sun Hey, have you checked up my thread about "What skills to add on Guderian"? I hope you can share your thoughts and personal experiences there😄 I personally recommend machinist on Guderian, though
