Okay. You accept my challenge. Heres the 1st one. What were the names of the 4 Japanese aircraft carriers that participated in the Battle of Midway?( They were all sunk, resulting in a complete Japanese defeat). Bonus question: What were the 3 American aircraft carriers that participated in the Battle of Midway? ( 1 of them was sunk).

The sunk aircraft American carrier was the flagship of which Vice Admiral? And whos the Rear Admiral that also participated in the battle?

I honestly only know the Yorktown (the one that was sunk), and feel that it would be cheating to look on Wikipedia

The American carrier that was sunk was indeed the Yorktown. Well done. Wasnโt there a USS Missouri? Uh, I dont think that was an aircraft carrier but it might have been one of the cruisers or destroyers escorting the American carriers.

Also, no thats not the answer. Well in that case, I abandon, you won. GG Heres the answer to the question. Not the challenge though. Okay so the Japanese carriers are the Hiryu, Akagi, Kaga and Soryiu and the American carriers are the Yorktown, Hornet and Enterprise. Only the Yorktown was sunk to the Americans, but the Japanese lost all their aircraft carriers, resulting, as you can see in a very heavy loss for the Japanese. 2 reasons why it was such a heavy loss is 1. because the sunk Japanese carriers had sunk with lots of Japans elite airmen, ones that could not be replaced, and 2 that now, a new era in naval warfare had begun. No longer were the navy now dependent on warships as their main attack or defence force, because the might of aircraft carriers to strike much farther and much more deadly blows than warships had been proven at Midway and at the Battle of the Coral Sea and in further battles. The Battle of the Coral sea was the first combat of aircraft carrier against aircraft carrier with no warship firing a shoot against an enemy warship.
