Your best option is Leeb. He Leebs enemies to waste.

Well honestly Manstien would be the best gen out of all of them, but if you are trying to avoid IAP gens (trust me they make the game 100x better than regular gens) then vaultin would be good, some say leeb, but in all three of my playthroughs I never liked having leeb.

Messe + Leeb is the most basic start to WC4. With them, you can directly gun for Guderian, then Konev & Nimitz.
Vatutin is 3rd endgame tank gen & another way to start WC4. If you are good, he can quickly help you get another endgame gen soon.
Lastly, Timoshenko. He is theoretically the hardest start but is still nonetheless another way to start WC4. If you make good use of him, you may even get a few endgame gens before selling him to get 1 more with the medals you earn back.

I did what you guys said, but leeb was to expensive and didn't have very good skills in my eyes, so I got Blamey, and you guys might think he's bad, but I was stuck on level 6 europe, and with Blamey and Messe I got to level 9. So, they work together pretty well.

In fact, if you don't have any IAP (even Eisenhower is ok) the best first gen is Messe for both experienced and non experienced players. Only if you plan to play massively and get around 1500 medals in some days and you're experienced enough it may be worth to start with better gen. Messe lets you complete tasks, some part of invasions from the very beginning, so you get some extra medals, resources, and you waste not so many medals for selling him. I myself bought Timoshenko first, but after that I decided that I should better bought Messe first, even if I had to sell him to buy Timoshenko. Next one I prefer Timoshenko, as he's capable to complete all types of invasions on low levels and he's enough to get Nimitz with 40% discount and Konev after that. So you get two cheap end game gens. Besides that Timoshenko's 6 movement stars may give quite big advantage. I'm now considering to upgrade Timoshenko's crowd tactics so he'll be useful in UN scenarios. Also if you upgrade Konev a bit (for some 500 medals) he's not worse than not upgraded Yamashita, so you don't need infantry gen for invasions like Rundstedt or Yamashita.

There are two non-IAP generals I do not bad mouth about in WC3. One is Guderian and the other is Blamey. Too bad this is WC4. You might progress now but will only hit a harder wall.

I want to buy a IAP general but am worried if game crashes or device breaks. Does it give you a code that you can use if something like that happens?

I think you can request a code from ET, but remember to keep proof of purchase. Otherwise, the game should recognise the account and restore purchases naturally when you use the function.

I did things the really hard way I guess. Started with Crerer and earned 1000 medals with him alone to get Sun LR then added Messe, Bagramyan, and Blamey. I used Tito intermittently as a fill in. Upgraded everyone, then at the end of cold war normal I got bogged down. I traded Sun for Rommel (discount version)traded Bagramyan and Blamey for Guderian. Got Blamey back for a bit then traded him for Konev. A long journey. My advice buy medals and buy Guderian to start. You will never lose medals trading and then focus on Konev and Rommel discounts. Messe is a great cheap tankman too. I still have him as my #3. Terauchi is a good 2nd artillery with accuracy skill upgrades and 5stars. I never used infantry generals but if I ever needed one Id use Konev for the job.
