I like the turn based strategy we currently have but it think an RTS would be a step in the right direction to make the game a little more challenging. Constantly managing the army and what not. I put down an idea where basically the world would be neutral. Select a nation. Factions and allies are completely flexible. You would form alliances through diplomacy. Your strength and the other nations strength would affect the difficulty of forming the alliance. (3 star easily allies with 1 star but not other way round). If you prefer going lone wolf that's also fine. However if you prefer the classic fixed factions then that would be available.
