Ciao been adopted in other languages I think,I heard it from non-Italians before. You can say ciao to any Spanish French or any of Baltic languages speaking people. In Latvian it would be čau

Ciao also has been adopted in Switzerland, because there is an Italian minority in the south (canton Tessin esp.) In German it's written like "Tschau" because tsch makes the Italian c sound.
