Looks good, but he is quite expensive. He and Wilhelm III are basically just Gates who can attack twice. In my personal opinion, the purple and gold infantry generals are not that expensive. He is not an end game general so there is really no point in buying him. He is not as great as you think. Probably the best blue-tier Infantry general in the game, though. He has good stats for a blue-tier and can reach Prince. Wilhelm can reach Emperor, but has slightly worse stats and Defense Formation is much worse than Intercept. All three of Soult's skills are good. Sadly, the problem is his price, which makes his prince range very close to the Infantry gold-tiers, thus making him not worth it. Still, Jean is among my favorite generals in the game. He’s quite strong on an Old Guard. Not going to buy him, but I like whenever I get to use him. If we got him instead of Gates, I would never dismiss Soult, probably even max him. He’s better than Gates in almost every way imaginable. Soult is also better than some crappy purple-tiers such as Roon and Vorontsov.

He'd last slightly longer than Gates would, but he'll still probably be kicked off the team after some time. Lannes is way better, isn't that hard to discount down to 800, and is totally worth that price even if Soult was free. As a sidenote, The free generals and the fast medal gain really make this game into one of the more easier ET titles. Jourdan and Gates are almost as good as some of the best blue tier generals while being free. That's pretty nuts.

Jourdan and Gates are almost as good as some of the best blue tier generals while being free. That's pretty nuts. True. In WC4, passing even the first two campaigns is very difficult if you lack a gold-tier gen, and farming in that game takes way longer than in EW6. Upgrading a general to Marshal is pretty much something impossible to do due to the fact that the farming system (If it even exists) is horrible, and the upgrades are way more expensive. For example, upgrading a general to Marshal in EW6 costs approximately 400 medals. In WC4, it costs 1000! If you buy Messe, you will probably get stuck in the tenth mission of the Allies, and in the seventh or ninth mission of the Axis. After that, you need to get Leeb, which takes a bit long. Then, you start aiming for the gold-tiers, one of which is the most expensive in the game: Heinz Guderian. The Blucher of WC4, yet he is much harder to upgrade due to the game lacking a great farming system. You only get like 12 medals per day if you complete all of the invasions. You only start making 50 per day once you buy a certain wonder, which is only unlocked in the game’s Cold War campaign. However, that’s per day. In EW6, you make that in 15-20 minutes. In EW6, you can get Massena or even Murat after you beat the main campaign which is doable even if your free gens aren’t upgraded. After the rewards are collected, farm Netherlands if needed, probably if you’re going for Murat. In WC4, just unlocking a good gold-tier takes considerable time. The cheapest gold-tier in WC4, Rodolfo Graziani, costs almost the same as Bismarck. If getting Bismarck in EW6 is kinda tedious, imagine how it must be getting even the cheapest gold-tier in WC4. Guderian’s price is pretty close to being 1000 medals more than Graziani's.

I have nearly completed EW6’s campaign without restarting once. In WC4, I have restarted at least 10 times (Probably much more) and the most I have made it is completing the first mission of the Cold War, the third set of campaigns in the game. In compensation, there are only 4 sets (With the last one having only 1 campaign, yet an insanely hard one).

Onto Soult, is he nerfed or buffed from EW4? That is confusing. Either way, if you want an infantry general for that price, GET MILOS or GET HALF OFF LANNES!

Okay, fair enough. Milos is more of an early-game to halfway through mid-game guy, but during that time, he can be GOOD.

...well *most* of the free generals won't last long, and the fact of the matter is, 1798 Netherlands can get boring after a while, and starts to feel like a chore after around 10,000 grinded medals.
