I just decided to restart the game as I made some poor choices. Would a half archer, half artillery com get me far through the game?
So my team would look like this:
Archer: Washington, Nobunaga, Nelson, Li Hongzang/Montezuma Artillery: 4 out of the following: Heihachiro, Napoleon, Li Shimin, Cleopatra, Khalid, Bismarck (not a fan of his lvl 6 ability, so I might use Cleo instead of him altogether)
Have any of you guys beat the game using an artillery com before. Have you found that artillery is any good against daily invasions? Should I use more artillery commanders, or more generals with rumor on the team? Any feedback will be appreciated. This game is pretty tough, and I trying to figure out what the best way of doing it is.
And also, just so I don’t mess it up like last time, my plan is gonna be like this
Classical Age> do nothing Medieval Age> do nothing Empire Age> get Nobunaga, begin upgrading generals, possibly start upgrading Montezuma skills Discovery Age> Start upgrading Cleopatra and Khalid, maybe get Li Shimin, get Catherine Gun Powder Age> Get Bismarck, as he is free, but not upgrade any of his skills, except Rumor. Get Nelson, get Heihachiro. Maybe fire Khalid/Cleopatra Industrial Age> Upgrade all generals up to level 6, except leave Bismarck, and the fired generals at level 5.
Would this build be helpful, all the way up to Volgograd. Even though I have all three iaps, I might use Genghis Khan up to gunpowder age. Will Khalid or Cleopatra hold up in end game? Thanks, I really want this run to be perfect.

Thanks, I really want this run to be perfect. Actually it is very difficult to say. No-one did it before and it was mentioned earlier by Iron Duke only as a joke. In the endgame Artillery is not very good at fighting AI's generals to be honest, but you have a solid archers team as well. You can always keep one or two vulnerable generals like Jhansi or Cleo safe, and besides Khalid has a good combination of skills for your team and there's no need to upgrade Bismarck up to level 6. So all this is not a problem... With two commanders in the team (Khalid and Heihachiro) your two best Art generals - Napoleon and LiShimin should be quite effective against some land generals as well (definitely against archers whose defense is weak). I would say it is worth trying... Nobunaga-Washington-Li-Nelson Napoleon-LiShimin-Heihachiro-Khalid At least on paper it looks very solid imo...

Btw, I'm not a fan of restarting EW5, because you loose more than you gain... You were so close to 125 cities... All your previous losses could be covered by daily amount of medals. And now you have to start all over again...

Regarding your idea, as Stoic has already said it's difficult to say if it could work and my instinct is that it would be very difficult for the reasons he mentioned, at the very least. Whether you should give it a go or not is obviously your call, and it depends on what you want to achieve; if your goal is solely to complete the game then I'd recommend sticking with a tried and tested formation of ArchCom or CavCom, however, if you want to be a trailblazing pioneer then you should absolutely give it a go!

And now you have to start all over again... I do think sometimes it makes to sense to restart, but then as I did so myself after the first 3 weeks of playing I'm almost obliged to However in this case at c120 cities I totally agree. Then again, if one is totally stuck I suppose it's less boring to restart than potentially just doing daily missions for a week or two

I was thinking the same thing of getting 3 more artillery generals besides Napoleon to speed up the farming in the Classical Age Conquest Then again I realised how powerful archers are when they just waltz into a city and destroy it in 3 turns

Richard was good but died too fast.

Hmm, so everyone says it may or may not work. Interesting. I really like artillery for blowing up cities easily, and also for rumoring generals. And the reason I want khalid is since some of the generals on my team will have leadership as a skill, and he has spy, it will be like having 2 nobunagas!
I could also consider not getting Li Shimin at all. I could consider getting only Khalid-Bismarck-Napoleon, and using the last slot in order to get Yi Sun Sin or Montezuma (if I got Li Hongzang) in order to help my team out. The reason I want an artillery leader is I will most likely have at least two artillery generals on my team, since no archer is capable of flat out rumoring the enemy (closest thing to that is Nelson’s sailor) and I want to boost their output.

I was thinking the same thing of getting 3 more artillery generals besides Napoleon to speed up the farming in the Classical Age Conquest Then again I realised how powerful archers are when they just waltz into a city and destroy it in 3 turns Technically, if we estimate dmg against cities, this makes Archers a demi-arty unit species. Arty obviously has the advantage, with 100% + 200% (arty skill) = 300% of dmg. I believe that Cav and Inf deals either 100% of normal attack or 150% of normal attack to cities and forts. Then, comes the tricky part: Archers. If Cav and Inf deals 150% dmg, Archers SHOULD deal 200% dmg. If Cav and Inf deal 100% dmg, Archers SHOULD deal 150% dmg. You can actually see and feel the greater effectiveness of Archers at destroying cities compared to Cav and Inf in Conquest mode.

I believe Jhansi has logistics like washington once at lvl 6, so she might be worth getting as well.

I used her in my team along with Nobunaga, Li, Nelson & later on Jebe. She can't take much punishment and needs protecting, but when you have 3 archery commanders together then the damage dealt out by the team can be pretty devastating.

I used her quite extensively (if it sounds polite ), until I bought Nelson.

Moreover she has two excellent abilities at level 6. One is Plunder, and the second one (I don't remember the name) is 75% of probability that her attack won't be retaliated. It doesn't give much against Infantry or Cavalry, but it is a great skill in battles against archers.

I probably won’t use her as my second arch com will he Li Hongzang, but she isn’t bad.
