After lots of research, I've come up with a general team that I think would be good. This is using the free 8 slots and no IAP because I'm poor. I'd like your feedback.
Infantry: Karl, Masséna, Washington Washington is a beast on infantry, and both Karl and Masséna can buff the frick out of everyone.
Cavalry: Murat and Davout Murat and Davout are considered the best non IAP cavalry generals in the game. Murat has aura buffing and Davout has strength.
Artillery: Mahmud II and Kutnetzov Same with cavalry, aura buffing and strength combo = devastation.
Navy: Nelson I want a navy gen just because he would be useful in 1812 conquests and navy missions. If I no longer need him, I'll sell for another general. Nelson seems to be the undisputed king of the navy.
I haven't actually gotten any of these except Murat, I'm just aiming for them. I want to know if I should change anything or know about any large weaknesses or troubles I would have.

It might be better to get Barclay instead of Washington and Alexander instead of Nelson from what I've heard (sadly). Otherwise, very good choices actually.

Good choices. I’d personnally recommend getting John instead of Kutuzov, as he is much better. Why? What's up with John? 1. Jungle and Mountain Fighting Stack 2. John has storm fortifications 3. John is cheap 4. John’s battle ability will be higher at max 5. Unless you can’t use jungle terrains, John is better than Kutuzov at everything Trust me, I bought Kutuzov in the past. He didn’t even begin to compare to napoleon, he was just meh.

Actyally, #4 is false. John’s starts out at Baron, where as Kutuzov at count. John will have a battle ability of 43. Kutuzov is better than John at that, but the difference is so small its negligible. John’s storm fortifcations is actually a huge advantage over kutuzov, whether or not you actually realize it. Kutuzov’s explosives is a useless skill, and 9% chance to reduce damage by 50% is also meh consider Kutuzov is an artillery general and shouldn’t take damage in the first place.

How can two terrain buffs stack? That's implying that he can occupy both a jungle and mountain tile at the same time.

But those players, who have John, are looking for this kind of terrain in the first place

John is really one of the top Art generals in the game. It was a difficult choice for me after I bought Alexander... The question was either to hire Mahmud or John. For financial reasons I decided to hire John, but I'm fully satisfied now with my decision. If we leave Napoleon aside, all these Art generals pairs are good enough:
Mahmud-John Mahmud-Alexander Kutuzov-Mahmud Kutuzov-Alexander John-Alexander
I don't think that there is a big difference between these pairs of Art generals.

Why let a simple 2 artillery general setup get in the way of a good city siege? I suggest a triad. Alexander-Mahmud-John.

So considering that they pretty much are the same, going with the cheapest general, john, makes the most sense. Although Mahmud can buff both him and alexander. Kutuzov is just really expensive and offers no real advantages other than plain fighting.
