after many months of attempts today i was able to get the 1*/25 turns reward for the 1939 conquest challange, the only one that still missing from my badge and i was almost quitting to achive since i lost hope along the way.
First of all i'm f2p so i don't have the excellence medal or any purple generals, that is a huge game changer i suppose.
Allies have a big advantages on speedrun since they don't have to run overseas to fight america and canada, plus the allies have a slight overall advantage on the african front and a easy-to-handle way on the asian front. The only two country candidates 1* to finish are Netherlands and Poland, Poland here is the winner.
General consideration:
The luck matter. You have to split the strategy between two points, the hot-point that you can control and the hot-point that you cannot control, doesn't matter how strong you are and whatever is your approach to the game
Strategy, tips on what you can control:
- Do not fight the german generals, go through or around them and focus on taking german cities instead, once you gain the city just keep spawning 80$ militia on them, AI really sucks on taking them back so generally it works 3/4 of the times
- On turn 1 send two infantry with the highest mobility general to east to reach asia, do not delay a single turn and focus on taking empty city with airport to spawn paradrops
- On turn 1-3 move all your troops to germany without touching anything else but cities, focus on Berlin that must fall on turn 3 before it spawns kluge. If you cannot take berlin in turn 3 you have to restart the game because you will never been able to capitol germany in timeand your economy on the way cannot hold the fight
- focus only on taking geman cities, do not touch other axis country even if they cities are empty, the main target is to take germany out of the game by preventing them to fill up fresh troops.
- If you approach the strategy correctly with a weaker germany all your allies generally survive with good performing, helping you to hold the front in europe. Germany shoud die before turn 20
- after germany/berlin the only hot point is italy/rome so move immediately all your troops south to finish the italians
- Paris/spain is not a hot spot, generally your ally take care of that, and spain can be easily finished in 2-3 last turns with paradrop and 1 arty to madrid, for some reason spain never spawn a strong army and leave most of the land unprotected
- Beside the 80$ militia, You will never have enogh money to summon strong troops and generals, the only priority as soon as you have money enough is summon your best tank general(guderian) amd your best arty(konev) to hold you back and finish city/generals
- On asian front the priority is capture the cinese cities and hold the ground, the japanese is a paper army, they overwhelm your allies but they die easily if you dont let them take the city. Spawn all the remaining generalson any kind your units can afford, skytrain some elite arty to japan mainland to finish tokyo and cut the japanese supply chain, in 5-6 turn from this paradrop if you do everything correctly you should able to dominate japan by crushing them in both cina and homeland
- summon a good navy general in asia may help, but in my case i was never able to acces any seaport until the last turn, so i didn't had. In europe do not fight on the sea
- There are no good spot for economy generals, in europe they will die easily since germany will keep killing them until the end. The most safes place is in asia but the will be safe probably only around turn 15 o later
Strategy, tips on what you can NOT control, never ever:
- The japanese fleet is the only strong things they have, their navy is bulky as hell and hit hard, they generally crush all your allies USA/canadia/australia but if they hold and set in ANY seaport on Hawaii, midway or West Coast most likely you will lose the speedrun because you will never have the possibility to claim them back in time
- If you dont take berlin by turn 3 your game is OVER
- German u-boats sometimes will set in far seaports in NY or even sometimes in mexico, this situation is a real game changer because can decide if you can kill germany before turn 15 or not. Despite the asian seaport in this case some of your ally may be able to capture back them, so the rush is not completely lost but the challange become harder
- Same as above, kill as soon as possible the Reader's battleship on the prussian harbor, he is really bulky and prevent the danish an norway to help you, plus germany would not die. same situation like the previous point
- Afrika go by herself, so don't care about, except if the last bottom city of italy still exist on the ground, in this case is a real nightmare if you dont place to capture them in time. Your ally for come reason sometimes always ignore it and will never help you to recapture, their cities will cover the whole afrika, so there is no way to take it but paradrop at least 2-3 infantry in egypt and go down using 3-4 turns and praying that the italian will not spawn any troops when you approach. plus 99% of the times you will forget to check the situation in afrika, so this situation can kill your speed run
Generally speaking the biggest turn point is Berlin, if you hold it everything comes like a waterfall, your allies survive and become stronger, the english will be able to land, some countris like netherland, greece and yugo will perform exceptionally well making everything easy. I was almost able to kill the germans by turn 10 except for a doenitz uboat that was sitting in NY and prevent me to finish them. My economy was always suffering by constant draining to spawn militia but if you play wise you can hold the game, if you have a luky run and can kill germany before turn 10, i guess that Poland is the only 1* country that can speedrun before turn 20. My performance was right 25 turns because of that u-boat issues.
With netherland my record was 28 turns and i doubts that i can ever do better, but maybe for some skilled/p2w player with excellence medal is doable. Compare to Poland the dutch have a very solid economy, can spawn economic boost general in indonesa safe and the japanese front is not so challenging if you stay away from the fleet, but the game on the european front is long and hard, by the time you reach you will face all the german generals and germany at its top. Playing with the starting general in amsterdam never worked for me, doesnt matter how far i run or how good i play, in europe i will never have enough time/fire power to take berlin and i can only counter attack if i run and place myself safe in some russian or balkan city or jump here and there with paradrop to counter attack. Poland 1 - 0 Dutch
