Land your troops before the northern Japanese fleet arrives. Try to defend against Koiso's counter attack with minimal losses. Move fast because defeating Itagaki in his mountain fortress will take some turns and you don't want to loose too much units against fortifications. A few submarines should be created to help your initial navy units defending the ports and then move arround the island to sink aircraft carriers.
The most critical stage: in the north a few enemy navy units need to be blocked from reaching the transport ships and the port needs to be defendend. The southern port is also under heavy fire and Koiso has moved in to attack the landing units at the beach. As long as the heavy tank doesn't take too much damage, things should be fine. Taking out Koiso asap is priority numebr one.
The first city is taken and all land units are alive and in rather good shape. The submarines I produced to hold the ports now move north to take out the aircraft carrier.
Kuribayashi's city is ours. It seems like we have to block/take the small NW island to prevent the enemy from sending reinforcements. The cruiser and subs move around Iwo Jima to sink the second aircraft carrier and help with taking the port in the west.
The third city is captured and the naval forces are making good progress. If we have a lot of turns left, we can take our time to lay siege to Mount Suribachi/Itagaki and also take advantage of our allies airstriking him every turn.
