I am creating an overview and easy understanding to all necessary content in the European War 4 board that may be extremely useful advice new players in their starting strategy for spending medals and emblems as well as using various methods. I have also made this introduction using links to other threads in this board.
Please note that not all of this is my content but modeled after other members output throughout the thread
GENERAL OVERVIEW
Not personally targeting anyone, but for those who don't have the slightest inkling of knowledge in modern history, This game is set during the Napoleonic wars with a few additional alternate history battles that have never occurred or is in the opposite side compared to the victor in RL. There are various nations whose forces have their own advantages and setbacks such as Britain and France having better navy compared to other nations and the US and Indian tribes having better militia. You have to win by securing various strong points (which can be either cities, stables, factories or ports) or killing enemy generals (sometimes both) and with one exception in Rise of America Revenge of the British, you have to kill all enemy units and taking all the enemy cities.
UNITS AND FORMATION (NO NOT THE INFANTRY SKILL)
In EW4, you have various units that may vary if you have come to this game after experiencing various easytech games, (I came to this after GOG I). There are various types of Infantry, Cavalry (which can demoralize units with a given chance and can attack after killing a unit), artillery (are the only land based units that do ranged attacks and can move), ships (sea artillery basically) and forts (Immobile Artillery).
For Infantry, Artillery, and Cavalry units, if you tap on selecting a unit twice (or thrice for infantry), you get formation, and this doesn’t necessarily increase attack power but increases health more and more, but costs more as well. That is Formation
THE LIST FOR INFANTRY UNITS
• Militia: Only unit that does not require technology but is very weak against other units in general (unless you have a gen in one unit)
• Line Infantry: High health when in triple formation and a healthy output at the start and very cheap at it (the highest HP for inf = Imperial Guard double or triple formation)
• Light Infantry: Fastest unit available for infantry and very mobile and even as fast as cav troops!
• Grenadiers: Deals extra damage to ships and forts and decent against other troops
• Imperial Guard: Great all round but slow and very costly. Triple formation is only available at capitals which are VII cities.
• Machine Gun/s: Deals high damage to infantry and cavalry, but not so great against others (not the best choice against forts)
THE LIST FOR ARTILLERY UNITS
• Light artillery: Cheap and only arty unit (apart from rocket) that can move two spaces on land without any generals.
• Heavy Artillery: Can deal high damage to any units (especially high against forts + ships) but SO SLOW like Siege artillery
• Siege artillery: Deals more to forts, ships and units in cities, but compromises against other units. Again very slow
• Rockets: Only unit in game to deal damage avoid retaliation to any unit even at units capable of ranged attacks, but cannot counterattack so extremely vulnerable
THE LIST FOR CAVALRY UNITS
• Light cavalry: Fast but only deals considerable damage to infantry. Can be very mobile defenders
• Heavy Cav: Better at decreasing morale but not great damage against mechanised units
• Guards Cavalry: Imperial Guard equivalent to Cav but is slower than previous units but still formidable
• Armored Car/s: Like machine gun but faster, however still not great against forts or ships
THE LIST FOR NAVAL UNITS
• Privateer: Only naval unit not to deal a ranged attack, so only useful as suicide killers or just as defensive. Easy to kill
• Frigate: My preferred naval unit as it is SO FAST and stills deal considerable damage on both sea and at units near the coast.
• Battleship: Deals more damage than a frigate but slower. High HP enables it to receive some hits
• Ironclad, Deals less damage but receives less damage and more HP
Generals
Generals are people who can be used in any units and it's stars and skills makes it deal more damage and survive more with it's rank and nobility and can enable it to survive units. Though the stars are important, The Skills are what make a great general and low stars can be mended by using trainers (yes it will cost, but you will soon have a perfect general for the intended unit type and besides you can't buy some item equivalents to great skills such as leadership and Assault art). This is split in three tiers: Tier one (some good trainers and gens but most are AWFUL), Tier two (Okay some rubbish Generals but also good and great Generals), Tier three ( The elite: Deals decent dmg all round and some very good generals ( No not Napoleon). But for those who are Anti money, Get Scharnhorst, 695 medals for arty, and Golystyin, 930 medals for cav and best medal gen for cav, Dobeln, 870 medals and in the long run Berthier for Cav. Or you could get princesses and train them to be great generals + they are free from conquests

START OF THE GAME
At the start of the game you start off with two campaigns : Imperial Eagle and the Coalition. Both can be played at the same time and completing the first 3-4 missions on each campaigns should get you a hefty 800-900 medals (this is in addition with the 400/500 medals you get at the start), and with this, get either a cavalry or an artillery general. There are various threads as to regarding but the best free medal gen for cav is Golystin which is 970 medals and for art Scharnhorst who is 695 medals or Kutaisov who is only 430 medals and can give an additional star star when regrouped.
MORALE
All units are universally based on one factor, Morale. If two units surround a unit, there will appear a light blue eagle and that unit will suffer less attack and defence. The next stage will be a dark blue eagle where one unit is surrounded by all sides and will have even less attack and defence and they will also receive more damage from enemy units. And the worst stage is Confusion, where a question mark with a cloud will appear. That unit cannot attack or counter-attack or even move and this can be caused if there is a food shortage or if surrounded by enemy units and morale falls lower which can only be caused by cavalry units and can only recover after a few turns or using wine items.
This is shown here in imperial eagle battle of wagram
As you can see the cav general cant do anything and though the grenadier and cav unit can move and attack, they are very weak and can be killed easily
RANK AND NOBILITY
If you haven't noticed, there will be a rank in chevrons or stars with some type of head wear (a crown or a army helmet). Now the rank is what adds the additional health to a unit, which is why generals have more HP than other units while the nobility ( the head-wear) is what a general regenerates his health after every round and even if the figures seem small, as they grow they will help in campaigns and conquests. You can improve them by killing loads of enemy units (obviously the number raises after every promotion) or using medals by pressing an up arrow and use medals but it is not recommended (especially not the 3600 promotion which is literally spending $/£ 15-20 of medals on just one general). Shown here is the profile of murat and you can see the nobility and rank
bxzvdtzG
REGROUPING
When you view your general info, you can see an option called 'regroup'. What this means that another general can be added into the general you selected, boosting the rank and nobility up to varying extents, and they will disappear. Also if you are going to make a general 'disappear' but has a 'trainer' skill, that means that one star will be added onto the intended generals. But do not worry the generals that disappear, they will be back in the academy but will be at default stats, which you can access through Headquarters pressing academy and buy again
MEDALS AND EMBLEMS
There are two ways to buy generals. The more common of the two is medals and easily achievable out of the two currencies and this is applicable to items as well. It can buy tier 1 and 2 generals although the latter is expensive. Emblems can only be gained through money or you can get one at the end of campaigns. Emblems can get you great generals such as Murat, Jean Lannes , and other hybrids such as Poniatowski and also buy tier 2 gens (you can either pay through medals or emblems for tier 2 generals). Medals can be gained through completing missions, conquests or just sometimes killing
units. (The Picture is from google images and not mine)
SKILLS
Though in generals stars may be changed through trainers, but the SKILLS STAY THE SAME. Skills are what increases a General's value and output. For generals such as Washington , Suchet, Mortier, etc, The stars may be deceiving and you may deal less damage as Stars do not guarantee better attacks all the time (Blucher deals less damage, compared to golitsynthebeast as golystyin deals more damage with focused cav skills.).

PRINCESSES
Princesses are free generals that are earned through completing Conquests under time limits and are great generals in the long run. The best conquest to get all the european princesses is Holy Roman Empire or France 1798, where you can finish under 30 turns and get the 'elite' princesses which is the GB (Victoria - Inf), Chinese (Lan- cav), and in some views the French (Isabela- art), which are the best. However do note that the Princesses start with NO RANK OR NOBILITY so you need to invest medals for a while and also on their stars because once you get them to 5* in their respective skills, they are SO OP.The American princess can be only achieved through American conquests preferably us 1778 conquest. Here is kanue ,s amazing guide on winning Holy roman Empire 1798 conquest

HOWEVER ONCE YOU REGROUP A PRINCESS INTO ANOTHER PRINCESS/GENERAL, SHE WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE AGAIN UNLIKE MEDAL/EMBLEM GENERALS! SO BEWARE
CAMPAIGN UPGRADES
If you haven't noticed then during campaigns, you will have units such as machine gun displayed on cities/factories/stables/ports but you cannot buy them as they are 'locked'. To solve this, what you do is when you enter the campaign, go to upgrade at the top of campaign and only unlock the locked units using the stars that you get from missions, (the campaign stars will be the same always). However i believe levelling them up more has a negligible effect. Also with stars left out can be sold for 3 medals (4 if you have a 5* business general like Arnold). But remember that the stars you invest in one campaign will STAY for that campaign, so you have to re-unlock units again in a new campaign. You can see the upgrade option at the top right
Items
When you go to your general's info you can go to an option called items. The items themselves are self explanatory such as increasing 6+ attack. But some can be actual skill equivalents such as Warhorse= Geography skill, Snare Drum=Universal Mass Fire and Firepumper=Fireproof. These items can only be bought with medals and so use them wisely. However some items are very costly and items such as on war and crown are useless in the long run so beware. Though you can buy up to 24 items, You can only have two in your general's item slots.
Here is a link to all the item stats in the training camp

Facilities
There are 4 types of facilities. They are; Factories (produce steel), Cities (mainly produce coins but lv IV cities produce small amounts of steel), Stables (produces small coin but mainly cavalry) and Ports (produces s small amount of coins and steel but again mainly for cities). When you have to build facilities, FIRST BUILD CITIES as they are valuable to your economy and you need to produce more troops and it also serves as mini factories, Then Factories and only stables or ports if you want to produce units such as armored cars and battleships. Also check every turn to see if your food shortage is decreasing, as if they reach 0, all your units are confused and cant attack anything so beware. Besides Farms only cost 40 coins while cities, 65 and others 60 with 5-20 industry. Personally i see building stables useless unless i want to unlock specialised units which my economy may barely support.
An Additional note (suggested by Desophaeus )
Cities are considered the most important facility as it can support the economy through gold (primary source) and steel (secondary)
The Cost to complete a level 6 city from say a level one= 325 coins and with the addition of lv 1-5 money it will take 6 turns to re-compensate you, so it won't honestly take long for you to get paid back so I recommend you (as i said in facilities) to get cities first

Objectives ( By the Laurent de Gouvion
What are objectives?
An objective is an action you must do to finish a mission, specifically in campaigns. These are marked by red flashy circles under the objective. They are normally divided into two, which are:
Occupy a Hex
You have to occupy a hex (city, factory, port, stable). There are red flashy circles under these. Note that these hexes often has a facility, like a city or a facotry
An example of this objective is in Fire of Revolution (Coalition). You must take Paris to win.
Note that you also have a red flashy circle under Oldenburg. This also means you have to occupy that hex, but instead of attack, you must defend. Take notice of that, as in some campaigns overlooking these would make you lose turns.
Kill/Protect a Unit
You have to kill a certain unit, usually with a general on it, to win. There are also times when you have to protect a unit, usually Napoleon in Imperial Eagle is like this. Of course, there will be red flashy circles under these units. An example of killing units occurs in Siege of Mantua, where you have to kill Heinrich XV, Wurmser (on the large fort in Mantua), and Klenau. Protecting units occur like in Retreat of Empire, where you have to protect Napoleon.
Note that you also need to kill units without generals sometimes. This happens in Naval Missions most of the time.
A Mix
Remember that these two are not mutually exclusive, so you sometimes have missions with both as an objective, like Assault on French, where you have to kill Bernadotte and Lannes. You also have to take Munich, Karlsruhe, the armory near it, Strasbourg, Metz, and Nancy.
FAQ
What are those yellow flashy circles?
Those are bonus objectives, which will get you bonus missions.
What if a city with a general has a red flashy circle? Which is the objective?
You can't know, so it's better to prepare a unit to occupy the hex if such thing happens.
