Ok this just baffles me. It's literally impossible to survive until the end with only 500 food. Unless I'm expected to fight all of the enemies with super low morale. How do you guys win this? It's the second to last Sun Never Sets mission not counting the bonus.

Conquer Tunis first. they got a trade thing. there you can change 90 money into 250 food. so food won't be the problem anymore

How did you pass trade blockade? I have brueys, Chicagov, Kate and my other generals have at least 2 stars in naval warfare

I just wanna add that you should plan ahead about the number of ships you would build. This way you can estimate which resource is constraint and which is surplus. I normally find that I have excess steel so I trade it for gold and, in turn, trade gold for food. I end up spending all gold and steel (no leftover) and have a lot of food supply.

Got 5 stars for this. 14 rounds without medi kits.
1) At the start, concentrate on taking the trade port at Catania. Remember to flank to increase damage. Once you took the port, upgrade it to III, then build a battleship for 300 gold & 100 metal. Add a 5* general to it and trade away all the metal until you are at 270 ish gold and 90 ish metal. Convert all excess metal & gold for food. A III port will generate +9 gold & +3 metal per turn. Hence, in 3-4 turns, you will have enough to build another battleship. Try to stay clear of the arty & coastal gun. Don't bother firing on Ferdinandol who is holed up at Palermo. Concentrate on the red blinking targets.
2) After taking Catania, spilt your troops into two battlegroups. 3 ships will advance south towards Tripol to take out the red ship (Karamanli) there before moving towards Athens to take out the other red battleship. Do note that there is a yellow bonus ship next to Athens. Remember to save regularly, take your Great Victory first then you can reload your save games to kill the yellow bonus ship. You need to leave one red ship alive before killing the yellow bonus ship to unlock the bonus mission. Unless you have great naval generals, 3 ships is just nice, one ship extra as a backup, in case one ship dies and you won't be able to have flanking bonus. For me, I used two battleships and one frigate here. After killing Karamanli, you should use healing tents on your way to Athens.
3) The other battlegroup should also have 3 battleships. Stay around the narrow channel north of Catania. Don't stray towards Tunisia. Bouvet and the French frigate will rush towards you. The Spanish armada of 3 ships led by Gravina will rush at you straight after Bouvet. This is where the two new battleships will come handy. With the two new battleships, you would have a total of 5 battleships here. Put generals on all ships. Rotate the newer battleships to the front and move the damaged ships away. If the enemies are far away, move the damaged ships into the Catania port to heal or use healing tents.
4) At around round 10-12, the last red ship (Sebastiani) will move towards your position with two escorts. By now, you should be still fighting with a few enemy ships left. Ignore the rest and rush at Sebastiani. Wait for Sebastiani to come to you first before moving towards him. Remember to save regularly here. Flanking is key here. If the enemy capture Catania port, it is ok since you have already build two battleships and traded enough food to last.
5) Once you achieved your Great Victory in 14 rounds, reload one of your earlier save games. Use your 3 ships to kill the yellow ships before killing the last red ship (Sebastiani). If Sebastiani dies before you kill the yellow ship, you will not unload the bonus mission.
Good luck to all and have fun.
