hi all! my first forum post. going to dive right into the question: what general should i buy?
i'm pretty new to the game , and i want to try to complete the later campaigns and need some good generals to do that. i want to know what general i should buy for infantry , cavalry , artillery and maybe naval , because i'm going to try to get kate. anyways , again , i'm speaking skills. stars don't really matter as i can do some regroup magic.
on a side note , i assume kate needs an under 45 turns victory in america? i think i'm going for 1775 GB , but any advice is appreciated. thanks!
(sorry for any english words i've butchered, not my native language)

there are a lot of generals in EW4, everty time you refresh you'll get random generals, the chance that you get the general you're looking for is small, it's that small so i don't think it's smart to name some generals, but I'll give you a few tips:
try to buy generals with the smallest amount of stars that aren't their main-skill (so if you buy a lvl 3 cavalry, try to buy a general with lvl 3 cavalry and 0 stars infantery instead of buying a general with lvl 3 cavalry and 2 stars infantery). In this way you don't waste medals.
try to leave a spot for a trainer general, so you can train your generals when you got enough medals, in this way you can upgrade your generals when you got enough medals for it, so your generals will be better and better!

thanks for the reply ! i just bought ' hull ' (4 star infantry , 'formation skill and the one that says 'adoption of infantry tactics may lead to higher damage'-> what does that mean ?) and used my infantry trainer dude on him so now he has 5 stars. thinking of getting him snare drums and a movement booster. Was this thing a smart idea?

yeah, Hull is a pretty good general (I had him once) You shouldn't buy items until you have a 5* business general, but snare drum is definitely a good buy. Also, you can buy tier 2 generals with medals OR Royal Emblems.
Some good generals are: Dumorinez, 4* cav general with 1 skill and cavalry trainer, and if I remember correctly, Kuitasov and Gazan are 3* artillery generals with artillery trainer skill. Hope this helped!
Oh yeah, and formation skill just gives him +1 max damage I think.

That description doesn't really mean anything. It just adds some damage when he commands infantry.

Before getting a beefed up infantry general with items and such, you should just save up for a good cavalry general. The general stated above is good, Golitsyn is also good if you don't mind saving 900 medals. Infantry generals aren't really that good compared to artillery and cavalry. You can get a good artillery general by unlocking Sophia, which can be done in a Europe conquest in under 60 turns.

To get the general you want you have to be able to refresh faster and the way you do that is by setting up special saved games that you use over and over. Btw have you looked in the board there a few threads about good generals.

Hull is good but id rather go with Cavalry tier 2 with Golytsin, if you dont find him at all then id suggest you restart the games a few times until you find Golytsin. Golytsin is great cav gen has the same damage as General Murat so if you put him on armored car during a conquest, he usually has 60-110 attack damage if you put him on Armored cav, if you want to get starting princess.... But if you want to have a slow, fun one then go ahead

I would say Hull is a good infantry general. Since you just started, you need to decide whether you want to 1) buy your starting generals first or 2) save up to buy top generals quickly. For a new player, I would suggest choice 1. But if you choose choice 2, the most popular tier 2 generals are Dobeln for infantry and Golytsin for cavalry. For choice 1, you will eventually regroup your starting generals to better generals at some point so it is feasible to buy those with trainer skill as yours starting generals. The cheapest Trainers for are Latour (infantry), Agha (cavalry), Kutaizov (artillery), and Elphinstone (navy). This is a discussion on starting generals: european-war-4.boards.net/thread/83/first-general?page=1This is a list of trainers: european-war-4.boards.net/thread/55/list-trainersThis is a list of all generals: european-war-4.boards.net/thread/195/summary-general-dataIt is wise to have one 5 stars business general early because you can use him to buy items in campaign missions at 20% discount and sell at 20% higher price. This allows you to buy and sell item at the same price. More discussion on business general is here: european-war-4.boards.net/thread/4/merchant-skill-save-medals-updatedAnd, skills like Formation or Infantry Tactic increase damage stat (I don't remember which on adds min damage and which adds max damage) on infantry unit. You can try by looking at the damage of an infantry unit in information tab before and after assigning Hull to command that unit. Mobility and Surprise for cavalry, and Explosive and Ballistic for artillery work the same way (despite their fancy descriptions).
