Hello and welcome to my first conquest guide! You don't have to clap, you might inflate my ego.
Why Japan is good: Great location for invading countries that don't get strong until late game (USA, India), facing weak countries (butt end of Russia, ROC blitz), very good economy, and mass expansion opportunity.
So starting off you've got a fantastic economy, very fast moving generals in the north, along with a nice front line force to deal with the ROC. Top that off with a solid navy and sufficient units to kill Australia by turn 15 and you've got a beautiful success story waiting to happen.
Round 1: North
Ignore Chuikov, he will come to you eventually and he is squishy as can be. Move Yamashita and the general in Seoul (wish I could check names but I'm in the middle of Finland 1943!) past Chuikov and to the northern Soviet cities. These guys can crush them in two turns and the Russkies are so occupied with your German brethren that they don't even build units on your end. What a deal.
Round 1: West
Focus all fire on the enemy generals and blitzkrieg the hell out of their cities. You can spawn your best tank general on a triple heavy on round 2, so for round 1 mainly kill the ROC arty Gen that's chilling outside of the city. You have another general in... near Taipei. He needs to play defense for now, he will get attacked by some generals.
Round 1: South
The ROC has 3 tank generals and Britain has one too, you'll definitely lose the city and your general there. Just go down swinging lol.
Round 1: Australia
Use your three starting ships to immediately start sieging Darwin while your starting land units focus on the northern Australian city and port.
Round 1: Mainland Japan
Focus all of the ships and land units on capturing Midway and Honolulu. It'll be about a 10 turn excursion, but you'll need to get them fast.
Round 5: North
Yamashita and no-name Seoul general should have captured the two Soviet cities in a vertical line, ignore the eastern two, normal soldiers can take those. Now have them loop west and down to Mongolia.
Round 5: West
You should have a tank Gen and an arty Gen built, the tank gen in Peking and the arty near Taipei. Your main force should have at least a couple ROC cities under their control and a couple of the generals dead.
Round 5: South
Your general is dead and your city has been taken. Fear not. The AI is ridiculously stupid and will probably stand around for you to come kill them or blindly charge into your main force. Kill them, kill them ALL.
Round 5: Australia
Darwin should be weakened, you should have that level 1 island city that belongs to Australia and the port next to it.
Round 5: Mainland Japan
Keep advancing onto the U.S islands. Don't worry about attacking Alaska or anything you don't have the manpower for it. When you have free money begin building a powerful navy. By the end of turn 25 I must have had 20 cruisers bombarding L.A and Mexico city. Let's not get ahead of ourselves though, we only on round 5.
Round 15: North
Bit of a jump, but the past few rounds are just filler. Mongolia should be dead and Yamashita along with no-name should be streaking across the frozen Soviet landscape capturing all of those delicious level 1 cities. If you are speedy, you should be at Moscow before the Germans.
Round 15: West
The ROC should be on its last legs. Only one or two cities left. After they die, split up your forces. It's fine if your starting gens died, they literally serve no purpose besides capturing Demascus. Send your best arty general down to British Yangon and India. India will be weak at this point and unable to defend effectively. All of your remaining starter generals (Okamura, Kuribayashi, etc.) will accompany him. Your tank general along with any other units you want to send with him will head for the southern level 1 soviet cities, parallel with Yamashita.
Round 15: South
Merge with West
Round 15: Australia
Brisbane should be the only city left. Utilize your navy to destroy the other cities, cruisers do stupid amounts of damage to cities.
Round 15: Mainland
Have those two islands captured and start spamming navy units. You're going to be facing an amphibious counter attack by Mexico and the U.S. Weather the storm and prepare to strike back at Mexico City using some land units (preferably ones that can take a few hits from subs) and a metric *expleted* ton of cruisers.
Round 15: Pacific Navy
This is a big part of the conquest. It allows you to capture every coastal city and crush the U.S underfoot in literally 10 turns. You should have been building many naval units in 3 specific areas. 1.) The northern part of Japan
2.) Midway
3.) Honolulu
Probably about 6 cruisers each. The northern group takes Alaska and Vancouver, Midway takes L.A and San Fran, Honolulu sails right for Mexico city.
Round 25: North
Soviet cities should be mopped up by now, i captured Moscow with Yamashita and he stayed there the rest of the conquest. Your tank general needs to continue on though, he is responsible for Britain and recapturing Germany's lost territory.
Round 25: South
India should be dead or have only a couple of cities left. Have your remaining generals head through the neutral Middle East for Demascus and Jerusalem. They will eventually go to Africa.
Round 25: Pacific Navy/ U.S invasion
Your massive fleet should have successfully rekt all of the coastal cities. Now that your income is like, 1,600 per turn just build a missile silo and spam the hell out of the U.S. they cost Industry not money so go ham. This method will carry you across Canada and the U.S. Mexico City should be yours by now as well.
Ending:
Behold, in a mere 35-50 turns you've conquered everything except Britain! And maybe Canadian Spain or something. Your missile silo spam caused Eisenhower to theoretically commit suicide as he drowns in your cheesiness, while your tank general is in London finishing off the enemies there. Africa was simple as your massive income allowed you to airport spam all of its level 1 cities and take them all in like, 4 turns. Just adapt to any of your allies' lost territory and finish off this conquest.
Short version:
-Blitzkrieg ROC and Soviets/Mongolia
-Storm U.S islands and Australia
-Build massive navy, capture coastal cities
-Split up your main force, one group goes to India and Egypt, the other to Moscow
-Spam the U.S and Canada to eliminate them
-clean up enemies
Generals used:
Guderian
Messe
Leeb
Nagumo
I would say the only one I really relied on was Guderian. A navy general is nice in the Pacific but not necessary.
If you have any in depth questions let me know, thanks for reading this huge column of text.
