So I'm choosing to do Australia as a first conquest with my experience from other games(WC3, etc). I have Graziani and Messe right now as my only generals. Can I get advice on how to do the conquest and what generals I should buy when the opportunity arises?

I definitely will not recommend Australia, ESPECIALLY as you 1st conquest.
WC4 is significantly harder & RNG DOES NOT usually support your faction, meaning that you may find yourself having to face the entire Axis faction without much allied support if you don't play well.
Try to play as Italy instead, or maybe Germany.
There are gen recommendations & analyses in the WC4 Library.
Since Graziani can act as temporary tank gen, go for someone like Leeb or 40% discount Konev. If not, head straight to Guderian.
