Legend: Blue is highly recommended, green is (very)recommended, purple is quite recommended, yellow is weakly recommended and red is a *Auto Corrected* general
Princesses:
1. Lan: Assault Art, Surprise and Strike and Leadership are the skills she has. She is a very good cavalry general when she is upgraded to 5 stars in cavalry. Also, she has high trading and Training stars. One of the best princesses.
2. Sakurako: Accurate, Bugle, Strike and Banner. These skills are obviously together not wanted. Therefore she is not wanted.
3. Kate: One of the best Navy Generals. Especially the Fireproof Skill is extremely good for a Navy General, but even without, her Steerman and Navigation skill are enough. If she is upgraded untill she has some more stars, she is a beast.
But Suvorov , how did we get so much medals?
You can achieve it in exactly three ways: 1. Grinding 2. Grinding 3. Grinding
4. Victoria: Defense Art, Assault Art, Bugle and Mass Fire make her one of the best (if not the best) infantry general of EW4. Not kidding. High movement, high Training... She is amazing, perhaps even better than Suvorov and Jean Lannes .
5. Isabela: Accurate, Engineering, Ballistics and Geography may make her even better than Moreau when she has 4/5 stars in artillery (instead of 3 stars). Extremely good Arty general/princess
6. Fatimah: Leave her in a big city and you'll have the solution for the global economic crisis. Mind you, not a combat general. Napoleonic code basically does the same
7. Sophia: Artillery general for destroying complete cities and fortresses. Evolved version of Isabela
Maria: 3 skills that have nothing to do with each other: Mobility, Formation and Nobleman. She is not good at all
Tier 3 generals:
Highly recommended generals:
1. Lannes: One of the best infantry generals. Leadership and Geography aren’t recommended skills for infantry though, but that means he is a multi-role general. Highly recommended.
2. Moreau: Best artillery general that exists in EW4. Very, very, very, very, very highly recommended when upgraded to 5 stars. He’s a weapon of mass destruction.
3. Suvorov: GET HIM! NOW! 4 infantry focused skills. Bugle (deprives evasion for infantry), Mass Fire (Destroy everyone even with 1 HP), Infantry Tactics (1 point higher minimal damage), formation (1 point higher Max damage)
4. Murat: Atomic bomb in human version. Highly recommended.
5. Lasalle: Murat but then with 5 stars in Movement and very, very good Cavalry skills.
(Very) recommended generals:
1. Nelson: One of the best navy generals. Recommended if you like throwing around with money. Although Sidney is more feasable, Nelson has a higher movement, which come in handy when you direct him from one place to another. Very recommended
2. Jervis: 3 sweet skills, if you can upgrade him to 5 stars in navy, he’s a beast. Recommended
3. Dearborn: Very high movement. If you don’t mind upgrading him to 5 stars infantry, get him. 3 good skills, Formation, Bugle, War Master and Architect make him a good general for conquering and defending . Recommended in Conquests and Missions.
4. Treville: High output navy general. Navy trainer is not a recommended skill. If you can, get Nelson, Nelson is much hotter. Recommended
5. Wellesley: Good infantry general, some bad skills. If you like having Wellington, recommended, but keep in mind that Lannes and Suvorov also exist.
Quite recommended generals:
6. Davout: - Davout can be a good cav/art general. If he commands cavalry, he has Surprise, Assault Art, and Geography (this is basically Berthier that gives up strike for assault art). And if he commands artillery, he has Explosive, Assault Art, and Geography which are all good. Although he is not as good as specialized generals like Lasalle or Moreau, he is still a good general (at least better than Napoleon).
7. Napoleon: Good in artillery, but Moreau has much better skills. Average in all other things. No focused skills, but the five stars in artillery make him quite recommended.
8. Bagration: Get Lannes or Suvorov. This is a multi-role general. Although he has five stars in forts, his infantry side is much better, because forts don’t fit in our “Bewegungskrieg”. Mass fire, defense art and War Master make him Quite recommended
9. Kutuzov: Good for infantry (defense art and formation), good for forts, but you don’t see forts that often. Fireproof, Siege Master and Formation are all skills that can come in handy when he commands infantry. Therefore he is quite recommended.
10. Radetzky: When he is upgraded to five stars in cavalry, he can be very good. Defense Art, Strike, Surprise and War Master are all skills that are useful in a battle. Furthermore, he has a high trade skill. That makes him quite/ very recommended.
11. Washington: Not the best general, but you can use him to defend cities with some training. Economic Master Skill ensures more money, mass fire and leadership are usefull skills when he gets overwhelmed from all sides. Therefore is Quite recommended
12. Dombrowski: 3 good cavalry skills. He isn't very special, but quite recommended
13. Poniatowski: Upgrade him with some trainers (Listed below) and he will be quite recommended
14. Masséna: Leadership, War Master and Surprise make him a nice cavalry general. For infantry, he has War Master, Infantry Tactics and Leadership. 5 stars in Training. This makes him quite recommended.
Hall of shame:
1. Blücher: Formation skills not advisable for cavalry general. Murat, Lasalle or even Ney are better. Not recommended.
2. Archduke. C.: Bad skills, high movement, 5 stars in infantry. Not recommended.
3. Suchet: Not focused skills, not recommended
4. Paget: MURAT IS SO MUCH BETTER! Not recommended
5. Brock: …..Just get Jean Lannes . Not recommended
6. Barclay: *turns away and pukes*. Not focused skills, bad stars. He'll be the last one that is picked during Physical Education. Even his collegues didn't like him.
7. Cotton: 4 stars in cavalry, not nice skills. Not recommended
8. Soult: Is it that difficult to get Lannes? Sweet skills, but please get more quality for your emblems. Sorry, not recommended. Infantry trainer and accurate skill aren't recommended for infantry generals
9. Alexander I: Only recommended if you like trading.
10. Jackson: Not a focused general. Not recommended.
11. Desaix: Not recommended. He’s average in everything. He should have been better.
Tier-2 generals:
Les braves des braves:
1. Ney: Highly recommended cavalry general. Very nice skills: Spy, Mobility and Siege Master. Deadly against anything that lives, moves and is your enemy. "Le brave des braves" is how Napoléon called him.
2. Wittgenstein: Multi-role general: 5 stars in infantry and 4 stars in cavalry. Fence isn’t a good skill, but his damage output is just flabbergasting.
3. Sidney: Very good navy general for a reasonable price. 2 navy-focused skills make him an excellent choice to destroy enemy navies.
5. Oudinot: The Jean Lannes of the tier-2 generals. VERY recommended
6. Golytsin: He subdues countries within a few turns. The Oudinot of cavalry. 2 cavalry-focused skills
7. Dobeln: Even better than Oudinot and 75 medals cheaper. The two share Infantry Tactics and Formation. The only difference between the two is that Dobeln has Mass Fire while Oudinot has Bugle skill. Mass Fire > Bugle.
You want to have these:
1. Collingwood: Sidney, but then with 4 stars in artillery. Fireproof skill is handy though. He's a beast in navy and artillery.
2. Grouchy: Recommended. 4 stars in artillery, 2 good skills for artillery.
3. Jourdan: Multi-role general. Nice in infantry, but also fine in artillery with 2 artillery-focused skills
4. Picton: For the price of merely 750 medals, you have a 4-star infantry general with 2 excellent skills.
5. Scharnhorst: 4 stars in artillery, he has Accurate and Engineering skill. Maybe better than Grouchy
6. Verhuell: 4 stars in Navy and 2 navy-focused skills while he costs less than 800 medals.
7. Drummond: 4 stars in artillery, Spy and Ballistics skill combined with his quite low price (around 780 medals) make him a cheap, good quality artillery general.
8. Ushakov: 5 stars in Navy, 705 medals. That's an easy choice to make: Buy. Do watch out that his skills are quite bad.
Not the best generals, but still:
1. Tormasov: Weakly recommended. Only 1 infantry focused skill, but 4 stars in infantry.
2. Berthier: Weakly recommended: Good artillery general, but mainly skills for cavalry. Geography comes in handy for moving him. In the case you have 3500 medals, you should use it to regroup him with some move trainers. Then he will be equal to a Ferrari with a badass gun mounted on it
3. Serurier: Nice infantry general, with 2 infantry focused skills, but Oudinot is way better
4. Bennigsen: Weakly recommended, he is average in everything. When he's upgraded to more stars in cavalry he's a reasonable general, with economic expert to boost the money production of the city.
5. Raevsky: Cavalry general with high movement always is handy. It is essential that you upgrade him untill he has some more cavalry stars.
6. Sulkowski: He's a nice cavalry general when you don't have enough medals to buy Ney or Golytsin
7. J. Bonaparte: Costs less than 700 medals and is fine for trading, because he is an Economic Master and has 4 stars in trading
8. Kosciuzko: 680 medals for infantry isn't a bad price for someone with 3 stars in infantry, 4 stars in fort, defense art, War Expert and Fort Trainer.
9. Joubert: Flat damage is the only good thing he has, 2 not focused skills are not things we want to have.
10. Cornplanter: 4 stars in infantry, quite cheap. When you want to have a reasonably priced infantry general, you should buy her
11. JohannI: Not a bad cavalry general. Surprise and Sailor make him a general you want to buy if you are low on medals.
12. Hood: Reasonably priced artillery/naval general. Steersman and siege master don't make him the best general, but his price makes up for that.
13. Duckworth: Almost precisely the same as Hood, but Duckworth costs 10 medals more.
14. Villeneuve: Quite cheap, quite bad.
15. Lefebvre: About 600 medals for a reasonable infantry general. 3 stars, mass fire and infantry tactics. Not bad
16. Klenau: 4 stars in cavalry. That's it.
17. Kleist: 4 stars in infantry for less than 600 medals.
18. Nenadovic: Good for trading
Leftovers:
1. Mortier: Not recommended, Grouchy has better skills
2. Bernadotte: Not recommended. Nice skills, but that’s it
3. Beresford: High costs, low quality. Only recommended if medals mean nothing to you.
4. Sebastiani: Cavalry/navy general with skills for both. Not recommended.
5. Yorck: Not recommended. 3 stars in infantry, 2 good skills, but that’s it
6. MacDonald: Not recommended. Try getting Golytsin. 3 stars in cavalry and only “surprise” as good skill is simply not enough
7. Savary: 3 stars in cavalry, some good skills, but he’s no match for Golytsin
8. Wilhelm III: It will take 30 minutes for you to defeat him. 29 minutes and 59 seconds to laugh at his inferiority and 1 second to command any general to defeat him. Not recommended
9. Pasha: Buying him won’t help you at all. Not recommended.
10. Gravina: Interesting choice for navy general but Sidney is definitely better. Not recommended.
11. Eugene: Bad infantry general that can only be useful for trading.
12. L.Bonaparte: Artillery general who can only trade. Apparently worth 680 medals.
13. Bulow: Pay 715 medals and you'll get a general that's inferior to Picton.
14. Clinton: Give up around 700 medals and you'll realize that nature has made a mistake by creating him.
15. Merveldt: For just 25 more medals you have Golytsin. Get rekt
16. Cornwallis: Grind some more untill you have 75 medals more and then get Dobeln. Dobeln is a beast
17. Palafox: Bad skills, bad stars: Don't buy him.
18. Ferdinand VII: Even worse than Palafox
19. Perignon: He isn't specialised in a particular skill and has two skills meant for different units.
20. Yermolov: 885 medals for someone who is worse than Drummond, while Drummond costs 100 medals less.
21. Selim III: For 540 medals, you have a useless general.
22. Leiberich: Only good if you want to pay 610 medals for a cavalry trainer.
23. Exelmans: High movement, even higher price.
24. Clausewitz: Apparently Easytech thinks his book is better than himself.
25. Platov: To say that he is bad is an understatement.
26. Nansouty: We should get medals to buy him instead of paying medals.
27. Calder: 70 medals more and you have a far better Navy general.
28. Bruix: The only good thing about him is that he costs 595 medals and is a navy trainer.
29. Strachan: 4 stars in Navy. Ushakov is much, much better.
30. Fontanelli: No good skills and no good stars.
31. Prevost: He's the opposite of a Weapon of Mass Destruction like Jean Lannes .
32. Eugen: Why would you want to buy him?
33. Sacken: You'll regret the day you buy him
34. Claude: Opposite of Suvorov.
35. Mehemet. A: I don't know why you would want to buy him
36. Qajar: Not good in anything. You should get paid medals to buy him.
37. Gerard: Cavalry general. 3 stars in
Cheap trainers:
Agha, Cavalry Trainer, 375 medals
Ferdinando 1, Fort Trainer, 260 medals
Latour, Infantry Trainer, 410 medals
Jerome, Business Trainer, 335 medals
Falsen, Navy Trainer, 400 medals
Kutaisov, Artillery Trainer, 430 medals (He has Siege Master and Explosive skill, so you can keep him as Artillery general)
Quosdanovih, Cavalry Trainer, around 400 medals.
August 1, Business trainer, 340 medals
Zakrevsky, Infantry Trainer, 450 medals
Gazan, Artillery Trainer, 465 medals
Senyafin, Fort Trainer, 315 medals
Elphinstone, Navy Trainer, 310 medals
Diez, Move Trainer, 450 medals
Nota Bene: This is my opinion. Of course you're free to question my opinion and it has already done by others. The only bad question is no question.
Also, sometimes you have generals with good skills but low stars. When you upgrade him, they are worth it, but you need to grind a bit.
