This is the 2nd mission in the Canada campaign. For 3 star our goal is to hold our 2 cities and our allies city for 20 turns. I used the 3 free generals from the US campaign. At the start upgrade Montreal to a lvl 4 city and use it to build grenadiers to put Gates and Clinton on. Upgrade the markets in the 2 cities for future income. At the start I built light artillery. Let the enemy come attack your city and use artillery to take down the enemy cavalry general. For me things went well and I was even able to destroy their fort.
Around turn 10 you will want to send troops to help your ally defend. They don't look like they were in danger of losing their city but on turn 13 a lot of enemy units spawned below their city. This caught me by surprise and I had to quickly send troops before they lost their city. At the end I blocked the enemy from reaching my allies city. In my own cities I left infantry to defend.
This was not too difficult of a mission. At the end my own cities still had HP remaining. Your just need to make sure to send troops to allies city once most enemies attacking your city are gone.
