If you use Murat to take out Sicily --> Sardinia --> North Africa ---> Spain, you should be able to find a minion spam somewhere in Iberia and ignore the Rhine altogether

I tried farming medals and failed. Too boring. I think working through the campaigns should give you enough medals to make good progress.
Trotzki said in a different post " it's the princess's game" which I agree with. There are many excellent generals but the princesses are free and can be trained to be the best. Every time I bought a non trainer general, I have felt like I wasted my medals. I would have preferred to just get cheap trainers and make the princess's stronger.

Farming medals is supposed to be like a programme that runs in the background while you work on something else. The alternative is really just to play fun Conquests which you are interested in. It's quite normal to feel this way, even though some of the Academy counterparts are good rivals. The princesses are indeed free, just that you need a lot of effort to collect them all. The cost is probably why you feel that way.

Princesses are awesome, but you still need medals to train them. Sophia is alright fresh out of the box, but in time you’ll need to beef her up with three artillery stars, two movement stars, and various items. That will set you back ~ 2,400 medals just for the trainers. While campaign missions DO give you 70-100 medals a pop and are the best way to quickly earn medals, they’re ultimately a finite resource (you’ll probably top out at 6-8k medals just through missions). You need a more sustainable way to farm medals, and the only two I know of are playing fun conquests and setting up a farm system.

How much do medals cost? I use the Chinese version and it's 50 rmb ($8)for 5500. I started on the English version but there was no way to connect to Google Play from China. I got tired of playing 4 slots so switched versions.

China blocks a lot of websites. General slots are 5 yuan, about .8 usd. When I restarted I bought the 5500 medal package and started with Zavresky, Arnold, Dumoriez and Kutaisov, which was actually a pretty fun group.

If you play a free, four slot game you dont need to train her and can replace her with Victoria at the end. In many ways Sakuroko is a more versatile version of Sophia.

Depending on which platform you are on, if you go into campaign mode there is now the option to watch ads to get stuff (medals, medpacks, wine). Have a campaign save ready with a five star trader in one of the trade cities (Fire of Revolution, the first Coalition task, is perfect for this). Watch the ads, get the stuff, sell the stuff with your five-star general. Every day - lather, rinse, repeat.
Note that you do have to have an internet connection active on the device to take advantage of this, but after it's done for the day you can take the device offline or outside of internet areas without issues.

Me too I restarted for fun over a month ago, aiming for the all princess line up. xD Lately I been in Battle of Three Emperors so far I have 724 medals . I like to spend them on the Tavern. So far it's looking good so far since I'm not taking the Trafalgar route. 1. Do you farm medals through the Battle of Three Emperors? I have heard that it is an amazing mission for farming replays. 2. Scharnhorst is a great choice imo. Give him an oakwheel and he’ll move three hexes, has accurate on grouchy, and also artillery trainer if you feel buying him was a mistake. He has isabella’s output as well, and her movement minus geography. 1. Yes and I got 23 by in Battle of Three Emperors, could have even gotten more 2. I was one of the people who got attracted for Grouchy's stars before my progress was lost
