Some time ago, someone posted with the rash statement that Manstein might be best used on artillery. The post was immediately dismissed as nonsense, since we all know that Manstein's tank stats make him a superior tank commander. However...
What do we like in an artillery commander? Survivability? Manstein, check. Plains fighting, since our experts here note that most of the map is plains? Check. Explosives, for city cracking? Check. True, there no artillery leader or barrage, but we've said those stats aren't as important. No 5 stars in artillery, true...but...what's the most important stat, as long as good damage output is there?
Maneuverability. Manstein, checkmate.
True, Manstein shines in a super tank, but in most super tank eras, he gets nuked. If you insist, save him for super tanks in those areas. Me, I am rolling with govorov, konev, Badoglio, and manstein on artillery, especially in the early ww2 and alien eras, with an air general to mop up, and the artillery generals rolling through Europe saves in gold for the airstrikes and paratroopers.

somebody asked the best artillery general, somebody said manstein
after it, some said it was true, but he costs 20 dollar, so it was better to go for govorov, because you can buy him with medals, manstein is indeed a great if not the best artillery general in game

and artillery barrage is after plaib fithing the most usefull skill for artillery generals

There is no perfect cannon general in the game, we recommend Govorov or Badoglio because they can be bought by medals and not by spending real money, though if someone spends money then he should get Manstein because he does look good for artillery
We didn't dismiss that poster, we got to know about Manstein's artillery abilities from that post...

I'd argue explosives is more important than barrage. Understood RE not dismissing the original post.
One point that has been made has been not underestimating mobility. With Manstein's other skills, man, is he useful.
Just did another 1939 as Norway. Manstein started in Oslo and ended in Japan in the 50 or 60 turns it took me to do it. Very nice to have.

The guy recommends Manstein as artillery... Me?  Manstein has high output(4 stars+Explosive+Plain Fighting), high movement(5 stars!). But his only problem is that he will be weak after losing health, same as when he is on tank. Patton is similar to him, but Patton could be upgraded faster by his Ace Forces. Manstein...  Compare with Zhukov, Manstein might should be well protected and keep making high output, Zhukov should get on a field artillery and charge into the enemies. Why? Zhukov is actually stronger than Konev on artillery, and Defense Tactic and Ace Forces gives him double shields. |

I live Zhukov as well. I guess my focus was as much about Manstein's great maneuverability and still-good damage stats.

Manstein is considered one of the best artillery generals without having any artillery specific skills lol
