I have to say one of the best ways to get an auto completed easier is getting good setup. Don't expect to start auto mode on turn 1. Maybe on turn 5-10.
For Spain, All I did was put badoglio on the starting field artillery in Madrid (I think there's one there) but don't start auto there. Instead move him to Marseille and Bordeaux and capture either city or both. Then start auto. I won the conquest in 100 rounds and I've used Spain a lot for some easy gears.
Many other 1939 countries are grindable. India 1943 works for me. If you wanna grind anything after WW2 you need a long time setting up or some really good generals.
Most at people would say you need lots of good generals to get an auto grind done, but I think some 1939 starts you don't need anything but some setting up.

39 Finland! couldn't make it work on auto tho, AI priorities are messed up and has no vision for long term goals. problem is AUS, just too far. 39 GRE or YU can be much faster once you have few generals to ensure good start, think I routinely had it under 40 (2h or so) moves once you get the hang of it.

well wc4 finland in 1939 is iffy for autobility, but for 1943 it indeed is easy to auto grind. Interesting to compare wc3 and wc4 tho
