How do i mod wc3's campaign

I have seen a few mods that do this e.g micro wars mod or alpha mod, so I tried making my own mod. I tried using hex editor on the level files but I can't seem to be able to pinpoint the exact location of various plots of land, along with changing the map I am using for the modified campaign. Does anyone know how to change borders and maps? Thanks!
