1. About Fatimah, players from the "first" generation, aka those who started playing EW4 within 1-2 years of its release focus more on battlefield ability. Mainly, they lean more on dmg output and movement. She CAN be used for mid-game, but due to poor battle capability, she must be regrouped.
However, the "later" generation use her as an economic gen with token battle ability. This group prefers to keep her behind frontlines as much as possible and use her to boost economic output. She is said to be most useful, especially when playing weaker nations with smaller economies.
If you have 5 or 6 slots, and want an economic gen, she is an option.
If you want a Business gen with 5*, either go for Arnold or train an end-game gen to 5* trading ability (eg. Sophia if you are keeping her).
2. The stars typically improve dmg or performance. For everything except the scales, boots and archery stats, they are your dmg stats. Each symbolises the gen's added dmg when deployed on that unit type (refer to Gen Output and Output Formula threads in Headquarters for more info on the actual output).
The boots symbolises movement. It does NOT impact actual movement in this way: 1 X number of stars = number of additional tiles moved.
Although I am unsure of this, every odd number of *s should add 1 more tile that can be traversed (subject to terrain movement debuff).
The scales represent trading ability. If you have any *s here, you can MINIMISE the losses suffered from trading. At 5*, you have highest minimising power.
The archery symbol represents field training and field promotion ability. The more you have, the more field promotions you can use (unless you have reached maximum TROOP ranking). This is the only stat which you cannot train (ironically).

docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1I7WX-3GJEuio4B1Iq3mJDjfLPv73A74I-Bul_LhAqrM/htmlviewThis should help with finding out where to get specific items. As well as effect of each item. As for the guide on how to recognize items deployed, your best chance is to memorize it for yourself.
4. Utimately, the final decision lies with you. Princess gens and gens both have their own strengths and weaknesses. You have to pick a team that best fits tour play style. You can choose to have a combination of Victoria, Golitsyn, Sophia and 1 slot for trainers, OR run with either a pure princess or pure gen line-up.
Inf gens are not recommended, as cav and arty are better. However, you can choose to deploy them if they are essential to your strategy.
5. Not sure, I have not bought IAPs before.
6. The only difference is the Rank and Nobility the trainer gives to the subject gen. Otherwise, trainers only provide 1* ability increase in their respective categories.
7. You can seek to get Arnold who is a cheap tier 1 business gen and business trainer.
As for items, this depends on your play style.
