So after playing the game a bit, I figured I would discuss the abilities of the different IAP generals, which to buy or not. TL; DR - Cavalry is still the best, your generals are best served there. To begin, combat acts a lot like it did in EW5, infantry beats archers, archers beat cavalry, cavalry beats infantry. Spartacus gets a skill to attack again with a 15% chance to trigger, as does Caesar. Caesar gets plain fighting, however, with a base +12 ATK while Spartacus gets +15 on all tiles against archers only. This makes Spartacus excel at killing archers, but I don't know how many of those we will face later. Not great, but not terrible. Hannibal gets 3 advantages; he is a cavalry general, and cav is better. He ALSO gets the 15% chance (base) to atgack again, on top of the cav ability to attack after destroying an enemy. Finally, he gets a skill called assault which makes critical attacks do more damage and be more common. I have not played with it yet, but it sounds like a good skill. Best bang for buck, Hannibal is first choice. Last is Caesar, who is statistically the best, but he is on archers (the artillery of this game). He gets a bunch of weird skills that increase damage against "smaller units" and the same assault skill as on hannibal (but higher level) and plainfighting, a powerful classic. Unfortunately he is not cavalry, and is also more expensive. Great, but expensive and not the first choice. Any input would be great, thanks for reading! What about combining units? Is there any sense to combine units of different types under one general? i'm not Sure but I think you get add equipment to units but not combine them

Each tactics master skill is unique to the unit type of the general, so no it does not make sense to switch them around. Also, most of their skills each come with a "while on x unit" modifier. Naval skills only exist in shop gemerals, which YOU DO NOT GET CURRENCY TOWARDS if you buy any IAP general.

There is also a new IAP called a "wolf banner" that lets you up each general skill by 1 point, for $2
Its an interesting idea, but I don't think it will be worth using

It is not the fact that Cavalry will be the strongest. In case the game uses EW5 principles I'ld say cavalry was the weakest unit type. Very interesting how different units are combined under one gen and how exactly skills are applicable in this case.

Archers don't counter them as heavily as they were countered in EW5, it feels like a mix between EW5 and tanks from WC4, if that makes sense. They also get the armor system from EW6, so damage is dependent on heavy vs. light armor as well as unit type

I died after being shot three times and trying to swim across a river with my retreating division after preserving the French rearguard action at the Battle of Nations.

Looks like the aura buffs are back. And unlike in ew6, all three generals have them. Nice!

So you get a copy of every skill in the game for free to use on your commander, making them a great choice from the start and reducing the P2W aspect if you pick the right skills for your playstyle. He also gets as his "Talent" (where the aura buffs are for IAP's) +3 Mobility and the ability to never get confused, so this makes him great for starting with I think, and with a copy of every skill and the ability to earn points to put into the skill levels, he is never useless

I think it would be very usefull Depends on how large the bodies of water are, how useful cleopatra is with only 3 skills(if she's on land), and how the mechanics of naval units are. If only naval units are able to move to land like how land units can go to the seas.
