Hi Fans,
I restarted the game and will decide if my general become a Archer or Infantryman.
I like that Archers do good damage and won't fight back, but they have low hp and defence stats.
Which path will your commander go?

I think archery because I want a 4cav 4inf 4archery deck and the forth archery is just terrible, the forth is Surena because I have cleo for navy/archery.

Labienus - definitely enough good infantry generals to not make your iap infantry. Cavarly 1. Arminius 2. Huo 3. Anthony (very fast) 4. Commuis (starts out at chilliarch, so he’ll be a berthier type of general, get ready to pour medals into him) 5. Scipio (best general at defending cities in the entire game. But at the same time though, why would you want a city defender? 6. Pacorus (commius without siege, who knew that someone costing 98 medals could be so good, but like commius, very expensive to bring up to consul). - a bit lacking on cavarly side. There are many great cavarly generals in the game.. Archery 1. Mihradetes IV 2. Octavian 3. Cleopatra 4. Li (basically Cleopatra clone) *surena lacks archer commander, making him 5th place. You really want that skill on an archer as they have no counterattack against everything but archers. Honestly, surena really sucks as a general. Do not be fooled by his green skills. Why would you want, of all things, an archer defending a city. Hahahaha. Many thanks to everyone on this forum. After a bit of debate, i think making your free general an archer is a great idea. There just aren’t many good archers in the game. Other units are packed with great generals whereas there are only 3 great archers in the base game. There aren’t even any good cheap archers with the exception of pedius

You forgot Antony who's pretty good compared to Commius, So I'm going archery in the future now I'm using him for infantry but for 5000 gold I will change that when I got vercingetorix

I’ll fix that right now. I’d say anthony is better than scipio. Geography + lvl 3 march + cavarly leader + lvl 3 charge, scipio has great damage but I feel like he is outclassed in other areas. Want some good at taking on stronger foes? Get huo. Want someone fast, get Anthony. Want someone strong? Get arminius. Want someone good at attacking cities, get commius. Unless you specifically want a general to defend cities, I don’t see why you would want scipio. But he is the best general at defending cities,

I think the best 4 Cav gens are arminius, scipio, Huo and Antony So I can take them all. And Commius is just not good enough

But if he doesn’t cut it for you, than thats alright. Point is that there are a load of good cavarly and infantry generals whereas only a very few good archers

Listing all the good (not ok, good) generals of a particle unit type. Or generals that are well suited for end game.
Pure Archers: Octavian, Mihradetes IV Pure Infantry: bato, vercingetorix, pompey, labienus Pure Cavarly: Huo, Commius, Anthony, Scipio, Arminius Navy Hybrid: Cleopatra
So in conclusion, they seem pretty well balanced honestly. Each type has at least 2 very strong generals in it. Infantry and Cavarly seem to be stronger than archers, so making your commander and archer does seem smart

And I was debatting about tiberius, I decided not to put him. He is good but not as good as the others
