Actually, there is something that is incredibly overlooked by history:The choice of America. Typically it is portrayed as either become neutral or become an ally, but most of our population supported the Central Powers from 1914-1915. The reason being were for the following people groups that heavily populated America during immigration:
German:Nothing more to be said here.
Irish:Hated the Brits and thus were favorable towards Germany
Jewish:Austria-Hungary was the most accepting of Jews in Europe and the Jews absolutely hated the Russians.
Polish:The Poles were split on which side to support, so half of all Polish people on the USA supported Germany and Austria.
Finnish/Swedish:The Swedes hated the Russians and the Finns wanted the Russians to get out of their country.
While these are only a few nationalities, Irish, German and Polish communities in the USA took up a large amount of the population. What stopped the USA from getting involved with Germany?
1.Many Americans still wanted neutrality instead of joining the war on the side of Germany.
2.The Wilson Administration was mainly of English descent.
3.All news of the war came through a telegraph line in London, meaning all news of the war was made to look favorable to the Entente.
4.After the sinking of the Lusitania in 1915, many Americans turned against the Germans and the road toward siding with the Allies began.
