Most sites on the internet have some sort of a built in search engine,like in our forum for example if you press the search function you would see this:
But you can also use google search engine as it usually better,simpler and faster.You can use google operators support.google.com/websearch/answer/2466433?hl=en to do this,in particular the site operator is one of the most usefull.
How does it work? Here is an example:I needed to take a look at one of netherfreek threads to fix some pics issue. The thread in question talked about:
Ace (game) and future (time period)
So we can take the main root forum URL,either copy &paste or just go to the URL box and scroll to the begining and add the search words then the operator.It will look like this:
Root URL: european-war-4.boards.net
Operator used: site:
Words searched: Ace,future
Combined this and you get:
Ace future site:european-war-4.boards.net
Google returned the top 3 results:
Note:
1/ There is a space between "future" and "site".
2/There is no space between "site:" and "european"
Google will search the entire website (and only that website) for these two words and return results.
Most internet sites make it very easy to search their content thru google operators but they are a few exceptions,some sites go out of their way to hinder this.
You can do the opposite to this too by looking for the 2 words in the entire internet except for our forum,in that case you would use the minus sign before the operator so now it becomes:
Ace future -site:european-war-4.boards.net
This is also very usefull because often time you search for stuff on the internet and one annoying website will return a million hits and so that's a good way to eliminate and filter that site.
This is just a simple example of a search using a single operator, you can get much more creative that this and use many different combinations.We can talk more about other operators if you want.
Understanding Google operators functions is one of the coolest and most usefull internet skills you can aquire because the normal google search without operators is often nowhere near as good or complete as a search with operators.This can be usefull not just for gaming but also for school,work and in just plain aquiring knowledge about anything.
