My first post. Yay. I have read the forum for quite a while now and it has guided me through EW4 and WC4 (enjoyed EW4 the most so far). I have previousy played EW3 and WC3 as well but not to the extend of clearing all the campaigns and conquests. Recently I decided to give GCR a go, but I am very confused as to how I should handle National Tech during the campaigns and conquests. Diplomacy seems simple enough, but I am never quite sure where to spend my Tech points. How do you prioritise the research? The mint upgrade seems powerful in conquest. If the governor (forced march) is available then I like to research that too. Any typical progressions that can be recommended? thank you for your time.

It depends on the country and starting situation. Sometimes You need to research tech for Improved battering ram for faster conquest progress (like with rich and strong factions). Sometimes You need to research Imperial guard to improve You population limit situation in order not to face cash-flow problems early on. Cultural and industry output problems for most of the countries can easily be solved by building quarry or library, rather than investing in corresponding techs early on. But of course there could be exeptions.

Thank you andrei. I have never used the battering ram research, will give it a go. imperial guard seems good early on and then useless as I never manage to field enough units to reach my max.

It definitely helps but make sure you got a surplus of culture before researching it, enough for orations, force march, destroy... on the turnly basis

Colonia, for some conquests in Caesar's time, you don't even have to bother upgrading national technology. There's a nation in the Celtic faction with a really bad national technology

The best way to start is
1. imperial guard (always get this first) > governor tactics (get all of the culture boosting focuses in order to unlock it) > strategic movement focus
