After playing around a bit I found that I could beat this mission choosing to control Anthony's army. I tried the Cleopatra side of things and I judged that it was literally impossible with the generals I have (I even doubt I could I could complete it if I had an unlimited supply of medals).
Anyways, the is not a very long guide because what you do is actually quite simple. I put my best generals on the group in the top. (They seem to be the strongest anyways). They all have good ships on them so I decided to attempt to go by sea. If you go to the northen part of the map away from the landing enemy ships you should have very few ships pursuing you. You need to travel east towards the landing point. When I approached land east of Alexandria there was not much resistance so I easily managed to kill the general stationed on the target and beat the mission.
As for the rest of your army what you have at the start of the game, I just left them. They only had the default ship equipped anyways, and became trapped after the 1st round. It would be a wise idea to protect them for population.
The reson I did not bet the 3 star was because Cleopatra died before I was even near her. I don't see how you can prevent this from happening because through sea is miles faster than trailing on land and even then you can arrive on time to help. If someone manages to get 3 star on this mission then please show me, I'll be impressed. I'm not sure if you're suppose to go by sea anyways since I finished on something like round 12/14 and that's the fastest way possible.

Your logic is correct, the sea route is the best. Take north west city, you can upgrade it to lvl 5 and keep Anthony alive by resupplying him with fresh legions. I sent Hannibal by the sea, followed the north edge of the map, and he killed enemy general and reached target destination by himself. If you don't have Hannibal try with 2 cavlary generals.

I used 7 generals ; Spartacus-like-Commander , Antony , Pacorus , Crassus , Mith VI , Drusus and Pompey. I put antony on war chariot , rest on royal guards and archers. Firstly I rushed to kill Roman general thats close to Memphis. With my second army near paratenorum I went to east asap to kill traitor army and escort antony from there. Pacorus , Mith 6 , Drusus and Crassus worked for second army. After escorting him i sent my first army to paratenorum and killed off roman forces and went for cyrene to get easy kills for 3 stars. Tips here are take risk for escorting Antony and use Cleopatra passively.

Extremely easy mission for March generals. Surround the nearest city and occupy the shore, so Octavian and his units couldn't land and the city won't betray You. Apparently, second city won't betray You as well, as You will move towards it before enemy could approach. The third one is captured as it is guarded by two enemies only. Than as soon as Your March gens approach You prevent Octavian forces from capturing the next city-port.

It's nice that you can finish many missions with the different approach and the same outcome.

Octavian doesn’t need to land for Cyrene to betray you But your Pompey position will successfully draw Octavian from making contact with the Cyrene forces so I Guess that works. Just need to kill him asap to prevent any unwanted trouble
