So all my guys are at Maj. General with two at Lt. General, and I've upgraded a few skills as well.
Is there a consensus on which is more useful to upgrade or is it situational/general specific?
I'm at Crimean War with all aura skills maxed already.
Massena & Murat Lt. Gen, Karl, Barclay, Ney, Dabrowski, John & Alexander.

I'd upgrade the cav and inf generals to at least L general and leave it there until the most important skills are maxed. Skills are generally more important than rank, but extra HP on cav and inf can save your bacon in Crimean War.

If all of your generals are Marshals, each of them have at least 500 HP, which is quite a lot. They will probably have more due to the fact that the units are usually buffed a bit. Or that in Crimean War, you get to use the strongest unit in the game. So does the enemy, but your generals will be able to be at their strongest. For most people, though, make Marshal rank your last upgrade. Prioritize the skills, then upgrade the rank, then max the skills, the rank and finally promote the general to Marshal. Give him items if he’s going to be one of your main generals.
