Hi,
I want to share what is probably the best general path out there, the aura path.
Step one: Get Massena. Upgrade him with gold and maybe a couple rank upgrades.
Step two: Farm campaign and Netherlands 1798 until you get Murat.
Step three: Upgrade them both, get them ambulances, attack items etc.
Step four: Get Karl. This is where you start switching around. Upgrade him. The catch is that he and Massena will have weaknesses. Massena's weakness is low defense. Karl's is lack of attack skill. I would give Massena the Prussian helmet and ambulance, and Karl a Ferguson rifle.
Step Five: Get dabrowski or Mahmud. Upgrade them. Alexander works as well.
Step six: Get Barclay. Upgrade him.
Step seven: Here, you are almost done. This is the point where you get Navy gen (Nelson or treville, maybe even sakurako), or Lan. Lan is really nice for edge. Upgrade them.
You're done! I probably missed something, and a lot of people will disagree on the steps. It might be better to get ambulance for massena before getting Murat. I know experienced players already know about the general direction to head in for generals, this is for mostly early and mid game players to give them a clear plan for generals and show them the importance of the aura buff.

Interesting, Here's mine.
Step 1. Get Ney. Why Ney and not Massena? Because you get 2 free inf generals who aren't actually complete garbage (at that point) and no cav general. Cav is also by far the best unit type in the game and he's #4 cav. I think 4 cav is fairly reasonable because of that. He's also cheaper than Massena and does Netherlands 1798 better than him too.
Step 2. Ambulance. Self explanatory.
Step 3. Murat. Also probably Self-explanatory.
And then you can do whatever you want, EW6 is one of the easier ET games except for Crimean war. I'd definetly get Dabrowski and Lan. Maybe Massena, I'm not quite sure if he's the best choice because infantry is kinda bad and people have already beat the game without infantry generals before, but one or two will definetly help. As for art, I'd recommend Mahmud/Alexander/Scharnhorst, I personally don't like Alexander that much, but he's not horrible. You'd definetly need one or two navy for Crimean war WAY later in the game, so you should make space for them when you're going after those missions. Sakurako is great there, Nelson is also great there. Treville is also a choice, but he's a fair bit worse because he's a prince and lacks helmsman.

Since we're sharing General Paths, here's mines. Step 1: Bought Massena and a Ambulance Step 2: Bought Mahmud II and a tent Step 3: Bought Karl and Murat Step 3.5: Thought it was a good idea to nearly max Murat before getting a full team Step 4: Bought John after debating on him or Alexander Step 5: Bought Dabrowski and Barclay Step 6: Plan on buying Lan (Or a Admiral) Step 7: Promote everyone to M General and buy all the Attack/Defense items.
So far I didn't really need a Admiral as Falsen worked fine for now but that might change after reading Kevin's guide. Final setup is 3/3/2 or 3/2/2/1. I personally use 3 Infantry because I love spamming Grenadiers and having 3 aura gens makes a regular Militia into a force to be reckoned with.

General rule of thumb when buying gens is auras They buff you and the units surrounding.

General rule of thumb when buying gens is auras They buff you and the units surrounding. I don’t agree with that. Personally I find inf and art aura to be really overrated. The problem I have with the idea of stacking auras is that it requires 2-3 generals in the same place, which imo isn’t an efficient use of your precious deployable general slots. 2 artillery gens sieging the same city is completely overkill I find. And 100 atk militia are a joke. That requires using 3 infantry generals in the same place. I can field an army of lancers with 90 atk using just 1 aura cav with about the same cost-efficiency because lancers don’t die as fast as militia.

Then think of it as an extra assault .

My build so far (Warning: Includes IAP generals): -Completed USA campaign, did some Netherlands and got Murat. Did all the way until Russian Campaign. (Overlord in Eastern Europe) -In Russian Campaign (Overlord in Eastern Europe), bought Blucher and used his medals to max Murat, then maxed Blucher. -Bought Massena and completed Ottoman Campaign. Then maxed Massena. -Bought Napoleon and completed British Campaign, then Colombian Campaign. Maxed Napoleon. -Bought medals to get Karl and complete Prussian War, first half of Spanish war and first mission of Hundred Days War, aside from collecting all of the Conquest Rewards. Maxed Karl. -Will do the Prussian/German Campaign to get medals for Mahmud II, then use the medals from Italian Campaign to help maxing him. -After that, it’s just a matter of buying and maxing great generals to complete the rest of the Challenges.
