I only have the free generals right now, but I have about 2000 medals. What generals should I be going for? I mainly use infantry and artillery.

Even if you’re mainly using infantry/artillery you’re going to want a cavalry general anyway. Since you’ve got that many medals already why not just get the best one there is?

As the medals in this game are pretty easy to farm using Netherlands 1798, go with what Kevin said and buy the best one in the game. Massena is the best cost to efficiency for Infantry, Muhmad II is the best for Arty, Murat for Cavalry, Nelson is best for Navy (However you don't really need him until end game).

That medals are relatively easy to come by is exactly why cost efficiency isn’t as important as say, in WC4. Sure it’s tedious without Desaix, but it’s worth it. Also Lannes is more cost-efficient than Massena. Tbh, I really, really am not a fan of Massena. I know he’s good, but he’s just in a super weird spot for me. He’s not an ideal starter gen (Ney is better), Lannes is just about as good as him and is cheaper later on, and if I’ve already grinded 1340 medals I’d rather go the extra mile and get Bismarck later.

I actually use an auto clicker to help with the grinding. Set up takes about 5 minutes then I just auto and come back 20 minutes later. Rinse and Repeat
I prefer Massena because of personal bias as he carried me through out the early campaigns until I found out I could auto 1798. At the start, I forgot about Ney. Didn't really use cavalry until I later found out that HC was really good.

I hired Murat, but who should I hire after him. Also how do I get rid of the free generals once I can afford better generals?

I hired Murat, but who should I hire after him. Also how do I get rid of the free generals once I can afford better generals? It really doesn’t matter in what order you get your generals now. The #1 priority for you is probably the ambulance. The simplest way is getting the aura gens (people with infantry master, cavalry commander, artillery expert). I’d personally do this right now: Ambulance -> upgrade Murats aura to lv4 -> Dabrowski -> get Dabrowskis aura to lv4 -> and then work on getting the inf gens and the art gens. You can dismiss the free gens as long as you don’t have then on a daily mission. Though keep them for as long as you can. Jourdan and Gates are actually really good compared to a lot of other generals.

I got my first general is Nelson. Than I found out the campaign without Navy I could hardly pass. Than I farm the Netherland. When I finally got Massena. I could finish all the campaign just with both of them. But for sure I got some other generals too. But both of them is the main general I used. My final lineup could give you a sample. I got Massena, Lannes, Murat, Bageration, Nelson, Hood, John and Mahmod 2. Which I got all the generals have the discount. And be honest those campaign for the discount is really easy to pass. You could easily get 50% off. Meanwhile you get medals from those campaign. I strongly recommend you get Massena first. Than Lanner, Murat, Mahmod, John, Bageration, and finally go with Nelson and Hood. Don’t do like me get Nelson first😂😂😂. Hope this help you. Good luck.

Messed up, but got it right in the end. A great lesson to learn through strategy games.

Though Nelson is great. I’d actually recommend Ney as the first general for a lot of other reasons. The only problem with Ney is that it forces the player into 4 cav (which is viable) unless you want to miss out on Lan or lose medals from selling him. Hood is decent, but not worth it when you have Nelson. As you rarely need more than one admiral and Nelson outclasses everyone but Sakurako, who has a completely different (but useful) niche. Bagration is an actual city defender. City defenders suck (gets killed in no time). QED Bagration sucks. Use him for anything else and a lot of people are better than him. I’d recommend Dabrowski more haha. John is good. Scharnhorst and Alexander are viable competitors, but John is good. Lannes is great actually. He’s like Bismarck but less tough and versatile. And Massena+Lannes is a pretty good combo.
