Hi guys, I just started playing this game.
I have been playing other easytech games like EW6 and EW5 few months ago.
This is the first time im seeing a custom commander. How do you build it?
Im thinking of an archer specialist who has streetfighting+counterattack+rain of arrows+besiege. Like Cassivellaunus but with urban fighting and spamming 5 star cheap archers.
Or an infantry specialist with counterattack+shieldwall+hide+ambush. This one is about tanking damage. Infantry can counterattack other infantry and cavalry so hide is for reducing damage from those pesky archers it cant reach. Ambush can help conserve some health for it when its attacking. Shield wall is there to reduce damage from attacks.

After playing for some time, i've seen the items so now im gonna improve my damage potential with critical hits like advantage and roar.
My choice for infantry commander now is shield wall+counterattack+plain fighting+roar. Im gonna give him the dragon shield(25% hp) and gonna use him as vanguard. Im gonna increase his health since he has shieldwall who halves some damage so more health would be great.
My choice for archer commander is now rain of arrows+street fighting+counterattack+advantage. Im gonna give him the pharaoh scepter cause gonna im use him as a city capturer. This dude can hold cities for lots of days. The only thing that damages him severely when he is turtled in a city is fire, so im thinking of making him fireproof, pharaoh scepter makes somebody fireproof, right? He is xuanwu when he is holding a city but he is a sitting duck anywhere else.
Now, I can only pick one, so what's it gonna be?
Havent tried my new builds yet. I only have counterattack and hide on my commander now. I have tried the old builds in the post above though and they are only just so-so.
Im also thinking of a hybrid unit with march+plain fighting+counterattack+siege.

With this skill combination 'rain of arrows+street fighting+counterattack,' it seems like you are making a sea urchin general. Well, since this allows a customization of your commander, you can make him into anything that suits your style, so everything is up to you. However, I want to share my thoughts regarding the skill choice. 1) Archer Commander skill is generally the best skill for an archer, thus it is a must. 2) Rain of Arrows skill is very very situational and hard to get the condition right. So it is considered inferior than other skills. 3) Street Fighting is an OK skill, esp for defending. But it is not as attractive as other Fighting skills. For Plain is better than Street for capturing cities and Jungle is also better for fighting strong foe (more dmg bonus and jungle provides protection). 4) This game, like other ET games, favors offensive to defensive so generally skill like Archer Commander, Besiege, Advantage, Siege, March, etc. are preferred. 5) Since the game usually requires you to move around, Pharoah Scepter is not very useful. 6) I, myself, make my commander into an archer general because there are already many good cavalry or infantry generals out there.
These are just my opinions so, in the end, how you will design your commander is up to you. I think it is more fun to have a creative general than a strong one. So your sea urchin general might turn out to be fun!!! Just keep in mind that re-skilling your commander won't refund any medal you have spent.

I have a cavalry commander. Mostly because archers and infantry have too bad action economy to waste the general with the highest potential on those units.

I tried archer commander, and it can replace counterattack. My plan is to buy crassus as city destroyer. Crassus destroys the city and whoever garrisons it, then I send my commander to Capture it, then the ai would be wanting the city back so they are gonna send everybody to attack my commander. Im gonna need strong cavalry to blitz the path to the city though. Im thinking of getting Huo for that. Im gonna need Mithridates too, because on maps without cities, my commander is very weak.

Thanks, last reply was on August though, the info must be really outdated. Many patches must have happened already.

I like a new variety so I have my archer commander trained March and Siege. He is basically an archer version of Crompey (Crassus + Pompey). This is by no mean the most powerful skill set but it gives me a new play style with an archer general.
