These are the best generals imo.
King of Infantry
Vercingetorix- even though Spartacus is IAP, Vercingetorix is tankier and fulfills the role of infantry better. Vercingetorix has shield wall and ambush, both of them conserve more health while the infantry commander skill makes infantry lose more health because of their chance to attack twice in a turn.
The best infantry build for commander would be infantry commander, shield wall, jungle fighting and roar.
King of Archers
Mithridates VI- caesar and mithridates IV have the same loadout, crit bonus+double attack+terrain bonus+ more bonus damage. Mithridates has more flat damage from jungle fighting though and has a crit based talent while caesar is a master. Mithridates VI can still be affected by a master bonus so he is the better archer.
Best archer build can be advantage+archer commander+ jungle fighting+siege.
King of cavalry- Hannibal has no competition here. Not only we F2P players dont have any Hannibal, but we also dont have any Gisgo either.
Best cavalry commander would be Cavalry commander+guerilla+assault+plain fighting. Cavalry is the king of plains, archer and infantry should just hide in their mountains and cities and jungles, lest they get trampled.
Notable generals:
Crassus- dudes got siege and tunnel, city cracker.
Burebista- great anti-archer specialist. Im gonna have him in my team so that I wont have any problems vs archers anymore.
Anthony- fastest unit, can attack twice, ignore fences and tramples infantry. He just lacks guerilla so the player can still make an improved version like a commander with breakthrough, cavalry commander, guerilla and march for an even faster unit. So fast that they can dodge fences, attack twice, and the enemy wont even get a chance to counterattack.
Pompey- consistent infantry, with march, his loadout is very great, has double attack, halves damage received sometimes, plain fighting, and march. The pretender King of the Plains, how dare a puny infantry ant act like he owns the plains?

You’re underestimating March. March is imo, almost indisputably the best skill in the game because increased mobility = better action economy, more so than any defense or attack skills.
The best infantryman is Pompey imo (has everything you could want). And Antony is almost as good as Hannibal (lacks damage, but is way faster). and yeah Mithridates seems to be the best archer (archers would be good if they weren’t snails)

I should add him in notable generals. I dont really bother about speed running, so I just went for heavy hitter builds. I mean, there's no such saying like "In the world of turn based games, only fast speed is invincible". No matter how fast you are, the enemy can still attack you back if you attack them. Maybe if this is League of Legends, speed is the meta there(not buying boots is like asking to get camped), they even have to nerf my favorite speedster build because it can allow a single champion to solo the entire enemy team. Pompey is a faster version of spartacus though, with more consistent damage output, but Vercingetorix is still king, infantry are the best at taking damage. Pompey lacks crit but his damage output is consistent so he can be the High King of Infantry. But he still cant best my meatshield Vercingetorix.

I do agree that high attack and defense are also just as important, which is why I said Hannibal is better than Antony. However, I do believe that movement really improves a units performance offensively, which in turn, also improves a units performance defensively. Movement is directly attributed to attack range, and increased attack range means better damage projection, better damage projection means reaching and taking out dangerous units in a formation like archers more quickly, which means taking less damage in total, taking less damage means dealing more damage (you can't deal damage if you're dead). Now that reasoning does assume that you have enough damage to kill or do considerable damage to the archer, and that you have enough defense or HP to resist it's counterrattack without getting crippled too much, but it does show how movement can be useful in a fight. What a lot of people do with Antony is just giving him the Golden Spear so that his damage doesn't suck. Also why are cavalry "the king of plains?" and why should infantry just stay in forests and mountains? The only unit who really gains an advantage in those terrains are legionaries.

Also why are cavalry "the king of plains?" and why should infantry just stay in forests and mountains? The only unit who really gains an advantage in those terrains are legionaries. Well, cavalry have unstoppable momentum on plains. Warband players knows that you cant just face their charge on flat ground head-on with just infantry and archers and hope to win with low casualties. Better find a hill or river, then hack them to pieces when their horses stopped charging. As for forests, trees are good shields to stop arrows and angry horses. Thats why plains belong to cavalry. Infantry and archer ants like me should just stay on our forest and mountain terrain to survive. Just think of it, horses are fast and they carry heavy weight, who can stop their charge when they have the momentum? They own the plains, where they can build up speed. Its different in this game, anybody can become king of the plains. Even in EW6, we got Murat and Dabrowsky as kings of the plains. They got the skill that increases their damage based on the number of hexes traveled, cavalry commander and plain fighting too.
