What do we consider to be "basic tech"? I used Russian Campaign tech to win my 1st 1861 Conquest as the UK without gens. Admittedly, there are moments featuring luck, such as: - Coordinated allied attacks on key enemy cities, - Good AI defensive tactics, - Reasonable allied support and - Slightly beneficial enemy movements. However, UK 1861 is fairly straightforward and demands simple strategies and tactics like - Coordinating attacks on New York and Washington D.C. with allies, - Attacking Cuba while Cuba is attacking a doomed Spain, - "Stealing" open enemy cities from allies, - Spamming militia to form an army or for defence and - "Surround and destroy" tactics. Not too difficult if you know your way around EW6: 1804. Main point: I believe that it is possible to consider 1861 UK as Green - Easy.

Finished France in 1865 with 41 turns. Extremely easy if you supply your allies well.

I think Romania is kinda hard since you got crutched by Montenegro Austria and Russia (right after you survive those two countries). On the other hand, other 4 countries (Prussia, France, Spain and Russia) are very easy. I even finish France in 27 turns . I like how the allies in this game is quite reliable.

Pietro Badoglio, are you going to, in your opinion, state which faction 1865 and 1914 favor?

Most likely. I'll have to experiment a bit to make a final call though.

Hi, and welcome to my first guide . Here I will be rating the conquests on difficulty with help of you, the reader. I will be using the 1804 version as a template and I'll work on this over a pretty long period of time so any help and recommendations would be appreciated! Hope this guide helps you! Purple - Very Easy / Recommended for beginners Green-Easy Yellow-Medium Red-Hard Dark red-Very 1861: (IMO) Generally favors Eagle
I believe that the canadian conquest you speak of can be much easier than you say which could make it green. I finished canada with an A in under 60 turns and I pushed hard west and defended the east. It all worked out perfectly and it was pretty easy.

Hi, and welcome to my first guide . Here I will be rating the conquests on difficulty with help of you, the reader. I will be using the 1804 version as a template and I'll work on this over a pretty long period of time so any help and recommendations would be appreciated! Hope this guide helps you! Purple - Very Easy / Recommended for beginners Green-Easy Yellow-Medium Red-Hard Dark red-Very 1861: (IMO) Generally favors Eagle3 Star Countries Great Britain- You're only fighting on one front so that's a plus. You have a decent navy which you can use to raid American cities and help out the Spanish with Cuba. As long as you take out McClennan, your conquest should be pretty easy as the Americans are focused on the Confederates. Send donations to help out your allies until you can send your main army. May be a long conquest but relatively easy.
United States (Union)- While you are fighting on two fronts, it's relatively easy to hold off the north using a few militia here and there. Bribe in the Mexicans and clear out the confederates, once that's done, send your army up north and take revenge on those damned tea drinkers.
Southern United States (Confederates)- Similar to the US as you're fighting on two fronts. What's different is that your economy is much worse, you have less land and you're fighting against two very strong enemies. However, you have really good generals like Lee, Jackson, Johnston, that can be used to completely cripple the US's and Mexican economy. Cooperation with your northern allies will make capturing major American cities a cinch. Spam donations to your South Americans allies and they should be able to hold (perhaps push back the French) until you can arrive.
2 Star Countries
Canada- Similar case to Great Britain however your front is a lot longer. Simply defend the Western side with occasional militia and focus on the more economic based East. Bribe in the Brits to help you with the US
Mexican Republic-Take out the Confederates with the help of the United States and send donations to your allies. The French should be able to take care of the south but you can still send some help to them (AUTO-able)
Spanish Empire- Speed is of the essence for this conquest. You need to quickly defeat the Cubans and start sending units to help out the Confederates. Steal some cities if you have too. Your fleet should try to stop the French reinforcements and cover the landing of your units. Mediocre to Good generals may be required in this conquest.
Venezuela- You're nearby to Mexico so that's not fun. Your economy is poor and can't even afford a single militia per turn. You can really only take out Peru and they won't go down without a fight. Once France joins in, you're good as dead.
Columbia- See above
France- Take out South America and send your units up north. You can use your city in the west to help out Mexico and steal some cities in the Americas. You also have a sizable fleet to deal with the Spanish.
1 Star Countries
Iroquois- Must I explain. Poor economy, check. Poor units, check. Strong enemies, check. Hey at least you're near allies. The American's will completely ruin your day and all you can do is hopelessly watch as your time ticks down.
Cuba- Take out the Spanish and prepare the auto! (AUTO-able) Guide: european-war-4.boards.net/thread/11903/cuba-1861-free-medals
Peru- HOLD THE LINE! Mexico joins in on turn 4 to help you deal with the Venezuelans and France joins in on the same turn as Columbia so prepare as much gold to spam militia. (AUTO-able)
18653 Star Countries
Great Britain- You've got quite a large navy and troops down in the Aegean Sea. You and your allies should be able to take control of the English Channel relatively ensuring safety for you and your Canadian allies. Land in France and now the French have to deal with the Prussians, Spanish, British, and Canadians. As for your troops in the Aegean sea, do not land them in Italy. Instead, send them to the Ottoman Empire and help win the Balkans.
France- You're fighting on three sides which isn't exactly fun. You have a decent navy in the English channel however it should eventually be wiped out as the British, Canadians, and Prussians pound it. You and your Portuguese allies will take down Spain relatively easily as you have some really strong units on the border. Kill or weaken the invading forces in the water with artillery and eventually, you should regain control of the English channel. Prepare a landing force, take out Britain and the conquest is in your bag.
Prussia- You're facing the Austria alone for the first few turns and have the pesky Danish up in the north. If you manage to hold back the Austrian's, prepare for a large Russia army to your east and a large French army if your allies in the west performed poorly. The Austrian northern flank is however weak and isn't ready for the Prussians on turn 1. Rush in and capture as many cities as you can before the Russians join in. Hold the Russians off using Militia spam and once that dies down, start preparing artillery to take the empty cities.
Russia- Your Austrian allies will be of major help in this conquest. The Ottomans have a pretty big army facing Tbilisi however the pass is only 3 hexes long. Block it and send your navy to slowly whittle them down. The Prussians will be a problem however they're mainly focusing on the Austrians meaning you have a chance at their weaker sides. Denmark will take some heat and give you time to tear down Prussia's economy, one city at a time. Coordinate your attack with the Austrians and together, take over the Balkans.
Austria- Your French allies help you with taking out the German states and Russia will help you take out Prussia and the Balkans. Spam donations to your allies and hope that their flanks go well and attack the Ottomans together with the Russians.
Italy- The Papal States? You mean Italy right? You can easily take out the Papal States and now you only have to worry about the British landing force. Keep their units in the water and blast them with artillery and help from your Austrian Allies. Send units north to help out your allies and steal some cities. Take out the Balkans and like Austria, help take out the Ottomans.
Ottoman- You have the advantage of being in the corner meaning you only have to worry about what's in front of you. You have a pretty big army facing towards Tbilisi giving you a good area to attack Russia from. Your capital is also in the Balkans meaning you can spawn the best troops right in front of the enemy and you have some allies to shield you from the Austrians. You can bribe in your allies if you want to help you kill the initial spam and afterwards, you and the Romanians can take out Russia. If you take over the Balkans, it will also give you a good area to invade Italy from.
2 Star Countries
German Confederation- You're taking the brunt of the French attack as Prussia will be focusing on Austria and Bavaria will only send a few units your way. The French have strong units and will spam generals at you and if you survive the first wave, they will most likely send units from the Spanish front to you. The Italians will also join in becoming a really big problem however the Papal states will distract them for a few turns.
Portugal- Taking out Spain with the help of the French will be pretty easy. Problem is now you're on the other side of the world where most of the fighting will now take place. You may be able to take out Britain however your allies in the east won't be fairing so well.
Spanish Empire- Take out Portugal while holding back the French. Once Portugal hangs the Spanish flag, send all units and wipe out the French. Italy is annoying because it's really difficult to send mechanized units there as they have the natural barrier of an entire mountain range to protect them. Send donations to your allies and the game should be sealed.
Romania- You are surrounded by really powerful enemies. Due to your unfortunate location right next to Austria, they will most likely focus you and send the majoirty of their units towards you. However, as long as you can hold them off, your Prussian and Bavarian allies in the north can attack at the weaker flanks giving you an opportunity to take some cities too. The Russians will be a big problem however the Ottomans will take some heat. Coordinate strikes with your allies and spam militia to hold off the Russians.
1 Star Countries
Denmark- The Prussians may be difficult to take out but eventually your allies will come help and you may be able to snag some cities too. You can build a fleet to help out your French allies and retake the English Channel and prepare an invasion force. The Ottoman empire may be difficult to deal with so you can either send an army there or spam donations and hope for the best.
Bavaria- You're right between the Austrians and French. Not exactly a good position to be in however, if you coordinate your attack with your allies, you can take out the Austrians from the game early on. Spam Militia to defend against the French and continue taking Austrian cities. The Russians will be a major problem as you and your allies are weakened from the initial attack.
Papal States-... I mean, uhh. You got a wonder? Yeah, unless you've got really good generals, nearly impossible. The Austrian navy will make it so building units is difficult and you're facing a two front war and the French has a navy nearby as well which will most likely come for you. The British reinforcements won't come fast enough and will most likely be wiped out.
Bulgaria- You are surrounded by enemies and your allies don't join in until much later. The Austrians and Italians will be charging right at you. Bribe in your Ottoman allies and hope that they can save you. The conquest gets really difficult when the Russians join in as your Romanian allies will most likely fall and the Ottomans are focusing on the Balkans leaving their flanks open. However, because you're distracting the Austrians, they've sent their main force towards you meaning your Bavarian and Prussian allies have an easy time attacking the flanks. Hold out and hope that your allies reach you before the enemy does.
Montenegro- Your economy is a joke and the Ottomans are automatically joined in on turn 1. However, your Austrian allies are right next to you and help you greatly in taking out the Ottomans. After the initial enemy wave, you can the offensive. Declare on your neighbors one by one and knock them out of the fight one by one with the Austrians. Build an artillery piece to weaken the British landing force and attack Istanbul. The Russians should've joined by now and will be taking some heat away from your flank. Split into two armies, one for the Prussians and one for the Ottomans. Coordinate your attack with your allies and the war will fall in your favor. Send Lend-Lease to any allies in trouble and wrap up the conquest.
Greece- Unlike Montenegro, you don't have the luxury of having distance between you and the Ottomans. Your main goal is to survive until the Austrians, Italians, or Russians can send help. The Austrian fleet in the area will be of much help and spam militia until you finally get some breathing room. Because the Ottomans were focusing on you, the Russians have a chance at their undefended sides giving you an opportunity to counter-attack. Your allies will be the major decider on this conquest and their actions will decide your fate.
1914 (W.I.P)3 Star Countries Great Britain France German Empire Austrian-Hungarian Empire Russia Ottoman
2 Star Countries Portugal Italy Bulgaria
1 Star Countries Belgium- While it would seem that it's a pretty hard nation to play as due to Germany having a army right at your door, it's not. Bribe Germany once and get France and the UK to join on turn 1. Place your best artillery general on the starting artillery and prepare for the German attack. After beating it with the help of your allies, start producing light artillery and follow them. Steal cities that are left open and continue southward. The Germans and Ottomans get a wave of reinforcements in the Atlantic on turn 20 or 25 so you can send some units if you want but your the British navy should take them out. After capturing a few Austrian cities, research as many blasts as you can and continue taking cities. Lend-Lease allies and the rest of the conquest is easy. Tribal Union- Trash units. Trash economy. Your only nearby enemy is France's outpost in Africa which will most likely not go down without a fight. Montenegro Romania Greece Serbia
About Spain 1861, instead of helping the Confederates, you should help the Venezuelans and Colombians. The reason being that they are both meatshield countries, in other words, they are guaranteed to be defeated by the enemy if no intervention is made. They can’t get strong enough to defeat the French, even if you delay France. However, if you send help directly (By “directly” I mean sending your troops and generals there instead of using diplomacy), you can defeat the French at least in South America. Of course, if Colombia and Venezuela can’t do anything against France, they can’t do anything against Mexico either, so think about it as saving time instead of gaining good allies because Venezuela and Colombia aren’t. In comparison, while the CSA is another meatshield country, preventing them from capitulating is relatively easier as Britain and Canada usually enter early enough to distract USA and guarantee that CSA at least survives. If you want to be safer, bribe both countries in. Delaying Mexico is also a good choice as it actually works, since Britain and Canada are better allies than Colombia and Venezuela and can actually defeat Mexico and USA, though it takes relatively long without your intervention.

Yes, kinda. Having your units on the territory on enemies that haven't joined yet make the timer go down by two turns instead of 1. Germany, for example, has tons of units on belgian land, which is why Belgium starts in the war from turn 1 if you play as Germany but turn 2 if you play as any other nation. Yes, but if you play spain, cuba just get in war with you in turn one? Yup.

Peace treaty is very useful. The moment a country loses their capital, they immediately offer to sign a treaty. If you have a lot of resources, you can have the country leave the war even when they still have considerable amounts of territory left. As you can see, by capturing their capitals, I was able to have Peru, Mexico and France, 3 very annoying countries, leave the war earlier. Helps to end the spam and you don’t have to go after those annoying life-extenders that some countries have. After the treaty is signed, they are permanently out of the war. They won’t enter it willingly again and you can’t declare war on them. However, countries who always enter the war at turn 1, such as USA, will never offer to sign a peace treaty, even if they lose their capital.

Imo I think Iroquois is easier than Columbia and Venezuela. Even though the tech is so stupid but you have only one country to face with, which is USA, plus your allies, Canada and South USA, is kinda strong. For Columbia and Venezuela, you will need to fight with three countries, France, Peru and Mexico (Sometime Cuba even join the fun). I even got S on Iroquois but A on Venezuela. France, Peru and Mexico are very annoying. Venezuela and Colombia die most of the time, so those countries will be able to upgrade their cities and get stronger than ever. Is there a way of defeating the three of them as a Crown country without going through Central and South America? Like, having your allies deal with them somehow?

It should be possible if you donate early enough. I remember in my UK conquest, I donated quite a lot to Columbia and by the time I beat Mexico, South America belonged to the Crown. As for Mexico, it should be possible as long as you help take out the US before the Confederates waste too many resources on that flank and provide them with lend-lease. Conquest will be a lot longer turn wise but you can skip turns and donate saving time

Got B-rank, but thankfully you only need to win to make progress in the “Gain victory as X country” achievement.
