I started playing as 1914 Austria-Hungary (my 4th Conquest in this era) and I find that it should be purple.
Boroevic can be used as the Balkans Conqueror while Hotzendorf is the Russian Conqueror.
With Boroevic, you can destroy Serbia and assemble your Balkans expeditionary troops during the attack on Belgrade. Then, assemble them in Montenegro, declare war preemptively and conquer them. Meanwhile, when Bulgaria joins, preemptively declare war on Romania and Bulgaria will wipe them out. Lastly, assemble your troops and navy to bombard Athens into capitulation. Boroevic's special unit makes him the best unit to defeat practically all the key defenders in the Balkans.
With Hotzendorf, repulse the initial Russian attacks and march him eastward. When he is at the border of the map, march him northwards to capture the bases surrounding Moscow.
Send the arty in Montenegro to Venice. Cross the Isonzo, decisively defeat Luigi and take Venice.
As Austria-Hungary, your advantages are numerous and you are mainly riding on your allies' success.
You'll only be expected to stand your ground against the your real foes in northern Italy, France and Russia. Even then, your enemies would usually be too dispersed to resist well, except for Russia's counterattack at Lublin.

Also bulid some forts in transilvina and cannons as well. Smart planing Nobunaga Oda.

With Russia and the Balkans, it was more of a calculated risk like the original Schleiffen Plan. Take out the Balkans to develop your economy for war against Italy. Punch deep into Russia at the first opening, take the numerous small cities and isolate the big cities. I believe even newer players can achieve about this much, especially if they have gotten very familiar with Conquest. Disclaimer: I have max tech for inf, arty and navy. However, the strategic success can be replicated if players deploy gens to buff their troop's tactical performance and play carefully.

Huh, I’ve always sent Boroevic at Italy since 2 of the enemy defenders in Balkan are on Breastplate Cavalry, which Boroevic is ineffective against, plus the terrain in Italy is way better for Boroevic. Austria-Hungary is really easy since the Ottomans and Bulgaria work really well with you once the Balkans is cleared out. Bulgaria and some of the ottomans will attack southern Italy, and the Ottomans will attack Russia, crippling your two main opponents.

In case anyone wants to complete challenge 1917 conquest with 1 star nation (for cavalry attack upgrade), Egypt seems to be the easiest one (or should I say the least difficult one?).
