Hi, and welcome to my first guide . Here I will be rating the conquests on difficulty with help of you, the reader. I will be using the 1804 version as a template and I'll work on this over a pretty long period of time so any help and recommendations would be appreciated! Hope this guide helps Purple - Very Easy / Recommended for beginners Green-Easy Yellow-Medium Red-Hard Dark red-Very 1861: (IMO) Generally favors Eagle3 Star Countries Great Britain- You're only fighting on one front so that's a plus. You have a decent navy which you can use to raid American cities and help out the Spanish with Cuba. As long as you take out McClennan, your conquest should be pretty easy as the Americans are focused on the Confederates. Send donations to help out your allies until you can send your main army. May be a long conquest but relatively easy.
United States (Union)- While you are fighting on two fronts, it's relatively easy to hold off the north using a few militia here and there. Bribe in the Mexicans and clear out the confederates, once that's done, send your army up north and take revenge on those damned tea drinkers. Guide: european-war-4.boards.net/thread/12166/union-guide
Southern United States (Confederates)- Similar to the US as you're fighting on two fronts. What's different is that your economy is much worse, you have less land and you're fighting against two very strong enemies. However, you have really good generals like Lee, Jackson, Johnston, that can be used to completely cripple the US's and Mexican economy. Cooperation with your northern allies will make capturing major American cities a cinch. Spam donations to your South Americans allies and they should be able to hold (perhaps push back the French) until you can arrive.
2 Star Countries
Canada- Similar case to Great Britain however your front is a lot longer. Simply defend the Western side with occasional militia and focus on the more economic based East. Bribe in the Brits to help you with the US and push south to save the Confederates. Guide: european-war-4.boards.net/thread/12095/1861-canada-guide
Mexican Republic-Take out the Confederates with the help of the United States and send donations to your allies. The French should be able to take care of the south but you can still send some help to them (AUTO-able)
Spanish Empire- Speed is of the essence for this conquest. You need to quickly defeat the Cubans and start sending units to help out the Confederates. Steal some cities if you have too. Your fleet should try to stop the French reinforcements and cover the landing of your units. Mediocre to Good generals may be required in this conquest.
Venezuela- You're nearby to Mexico so that's not fun. Your economy is poor and can't even afford a single militia per turn. You can really only take out Peru and they won't go down without a fight. Once France joins in, you're good as dead.
Columbia- See above
France- Take out South America and send your units up north. You can use your city in the west to help out Mexico and steal some cities in the Americas. You also have a sizable fleet to deal with the Spanish.
1 Star Countries
Iroquois- You've got good units but a bad economy. However you do have allies surrounding you to help out against the United States. Follow them in their attack on the US and take/steal some cities to bolster your economy.
Cuba- Take out the Spanish and prepare the auto! (AUTO-able) Guide: european-war-4.boards.net/thread/11903/cuba-1861-free-medals
Peru- HOLD THE LINE! Mexico joins in on turn 4 to help you deal with the Venezuelans and France joins in on the same turn as Columbia so prepare as much gold to spam militia. (AUTO-able) Guide: european-war-4.boards.net/thread/12110/1861-peru-conquest-auto 1865 (IMO) Generally favors Crown3 Star Countries Great Britain- You've got quite a large navy and only have to fight on one major front. Taking control of the English channel is be easy allowing you to land troops to easily on French soil. Guide: european-war-4.boards.net/thread/12168/great-britain-guide-1865
France- You're fighting on three sides which isn't exactly fun and your navy will most likely die but you have really good units ready to expand outwards!
Prussia- You will eventually be fighting on 3 fronts however the Austrians aren't prepared for you yet. Expand quickly and prepare for the Russian spam Guide: european-war-4.boards.net/thread/12178/prussia-1865
Russia- You have the Austrians as your allies which will be a major help in this conquest. Your main threat are the Ottomans and Prussians but with the help of your allies, you will eventually be able to push through and win.
Austria- Your French allies help you with taking out the German states and Russia will help you take out Prussia and the Balkans. Spam donations to your allies and hope that their flanks go well and attack the Ottomans together with the Russians.
Italy- The Papal States? You mean Italy right? You can easily take out the Papal States and now you only have to worry about the British landing force. Keep their units in the water and blast them with artillery and help from your Austrian Allies. Send units north to help out your allies and steal some cities. Take out the Balkans and like Austria, help take out the Ottomans.
Ottoman- You're in a corner meaning you can only be attacked from two ways so that's a plus. Your army is also pretty big and can easily expand outwards into Russia and the Balkans.
2 Star Countries
German Confederation- You're taking the brunt of the French attack as Prussia will be focusing on Austria and Bavaria will only send a few units your way. The French have strong units and will spam generals at you and if you survive the first wave, they will most likely send units from the Spanish front to you. The Italians will also join in becoming a really big problem however the Papal states will distract them for a few turns.
Portugal- Taking out Spain with the help of the French will be pretty easy. Problem is now you're on the other side of the world where most of the fighting will now take place. You may be able to take out Britain however your allies in the east won't be fairing so well.
Spanish Empire- Take out Portugal while holding back the French. Once Portugal hangs the Spanish flag, send all units and wipe out the French. Italy is annoying because it's really difficult to send mechanized units there as they have the natural barrier of an entire mountain range to protect them. Send donations to your allies and the game should be sealed.
Romania- You are surrounded by really powerful enemies. Due to your unfortunate location right next to Austria, they will most likely focus you and send the majority of their units towards you. However, because of your distraction, your allies will have a easy time with the weaker Austrian flanks. Guide: european-war-4.boards.net/thread/12094/romania-1865-conquest-guide 1 Star Countries
Denmark- The Prussians may be difficult to take out but eventually your allies will come help and you may be able to snag some cities too. You can build a fleet to help out your French allies and retake the English Channel and prepare an invasion force. The Ottoman empire may be difficult to deal with so you can either send an army there or spam donations and hope for the best.
Bavaria- You're placed in between France and Austria. Not exactly a good place to be. However, the Austrians are relatively easy to take out because the Prussians will be helping you in your assault. Hold off the initial spam and you're good to go! Guide: european-war-4.boards.net/thread/12073/bavaria-1865
Papal States-... I mean, uhh. You got a wonder? Yeah, unless you've got really good generals, nearly impossible. The Austrian navy will make it so building units is difficult and you're facing a two front war and the French has a navy nearby as well which will most likely come for you. The British reinforcements won't come fast enough and will most likely be wiped out.
Bulgaria- Your main friends here will the Prussia, Bavaria, and the Ottoman empire. Secure the Balkans and start auto. (AUTO-able) Guide: european-war-4.boards.net/thread/12097/1865-bulgaria-auto-guide
Montenegro- Your economy is a joke and the Ottomans are automatically joined in on turn 1. However, your Austrian allies are right next to you and help you greatly in taking out the Ottomans. Tank the initial wave of enemies and then start expanding outwards into the Balkans with your Austrian allies.
Greece- Unlike Montenegro, you don't have the luxury of having distance between you and the Ottomans. Your main goal is to survive until the Austrians, Italians, or Russians can send help. The Austrian fleet in the area will be of much help and spam militia until you finally get some breathing room. Because the Ottomans were focusing on you, the Russians have a chance at their undefended sides giving you an opportunity to counter-attack. Your allies will be the major decider on this conquest and their actions will decide your fate.
1914 (IMO) Generally favors Eagle3 Star Countries Great Britain- You already have a pretty big army ready to land in France. Send your fleet to deal with the German Navy and send your troop transports to land in Normandy. You should be able to relatively take out the German army with ease and that ends the last German offensive. The Germans will spawn a few generals but your field artillery should be able to take it out or you can leave it to your French allies. Push for Berlin and with the Russians, take out the remaining German cities and push for Austria. As for your fleet in the Balkans, use them to take out the Austrian Hungarian navy with the help of the Italians and proceed to perform raids on the Central Powers. After successfully pushing through Austria, the Ottomans should have a strong grip on the Balkans and will not go down without a fight. At this stage, victory is almost ensured, now it just depends on how long it will be. As long as you can take Constantinople, you should be able to build artillery and cavalry on the other side of the river. Take the remaining cities and WW1 is won!
France- Not that difficult. You've got good generals and units on the front facing Germany and Belgium will be taking the majority of the beating allowing you to weaken their units with artillery. The Germans and Natives will be annoying to deal with mainly because of the spam but militia and light artillery will be able to kill it off plus the Portuguese will eventually land. Use your navy in the English Channel to weaken the German Navy allowing the Brits to land safelty. As long as you kill off the initial wave, Germany is wide open for an attack. Push into Germany with Britain (and Belgium if they're still alive). The Italians should have joined when you invaded Germany and will help you with Austria Hungary. The Russians should have a large army attacking Eastern Germany and once they're gone, Austria is the next target. Use your artillery to take cities but make sure to take Istanbul to make your life easier. Keep spamming stables and factories on the other side until one actually survives and begin your rampage. Accept their surrender and enjoy your victory!
German Empire- Not the hardest conquest but the most frustrating. You literally get 0 resources at the start but you already have a massive army facing France and a decent sized on facing Russia. France will be a breeze to take out however Russia will be a pain in the, I'll leave it at that. Mainly because of lack of artillery on the Eastern front and you don't have the economy to build any. Your forces in Africa should be able to kick out the French if you place a good cavalry general on the armored car. Your navy should also be able to weaken the Portuguese landing force and your artillery will be able to finish them off. No point in invading Britain as they will have complete naval superiority in the English channel. Retreat your troops out of ship range and pick off their landing units. As long as your survive the initial Russian wave. You, Austria, and the Ottomans should be able to slowly take out Russia. Finish the Italians and now focus on the helluva defended Island called Britain.
Austrian Hungarian Empire-You're really only fighting off one enemy as Germany will distract and defend your Western flank meaning Russia is your main threat. The Balkans will be annoying but enough armored cars will bring them down. Secure the Balkans and get ready for the Italian invasion by preparing some artillery. The Russians will now join however they should be pretty easy to hold off with militia and light artillery spam. Beat back the wave and now counter attack and use your militia and artillery to take cities. The Ottomans will help in securing the Balkans and open a new front for Russia to deal with. When you're confident that your army can take out Russia, use your navy to attack the Italians. I'd recommend landing in the south as it should be unguarded. Attack upwards until you've reached France. Remember to donate any extra resources to the Germans as they will struggle greatly without it. Help your allies until only Britain remains. Spam everything at Britain until they eventually fall.
Russia- You have a pretty long front to maintain and 3 powerful enemies to fight. Use your navy to attack the Ottomans and spam militia to slowly take out their units. If all things go well, you should be able to invade the Ottoman Empire and take out one of the 3 quickly. The Austrians and Germans will now be attacking you but thankfully, the Germans can't reinforce. Spam militia and artillery until the majority of the German units are dead and counter attack. Your Balkan allies will help you distract the Austrians and Ottomans which will give you time to prepare. Like the majority of conquests, as long as you survive the initial attack, you should be fine and be able to counter attack. If you can secure your borders, the conquest is yours as your western allies come in to help you out. Ottoman- You've only have one major front which is Russia. You've got a pretty large army and Sipahi guards which when combined with a good cavalry general, are nearly unkillable. Build an army of artillery when you have a foothold in Russia and push outwards. Your starting units with the exception of the artillery should be able to take deal with your neighboring enemies so spam donations to your allies. Italy will be a problem but use your starting navy and a wall of artillery to kill off their invasion. Use said ships to lower the hp of the cities and start taking Italian cities. Push into France with your allies and you can either bribe France into surrender or continue the attack. If the Tribal Union did well and you donated enough, they should have a large army rushing towards Portugal so they can deal with that. Send your army across the English Channel and continue taking cities until Britain surrenders.
2 Star Countries Portugal- You're far from the front meaning long lines of supplies taking a while to reach. Your troops carriers in Africa will also be blocked from landing so you're better off sending them to France. When France eventually falls in Africa, the Moroccans will spam units at you and to add insult to injury, there are scripted enemy reinforcements in your colony in the Atlantic and an invasion force near Lisbon.
Italy- Fairly easy conquest. Initial spam from Austria may be annoying but if you defeat it, you can easily take out Germany and Austria. Use your fleet to take out the surrounding ships and then use them to raid cities in the Balkans. You should have a sizable army after defeating the spam. Send them to take out Austria and parts of Germany. Send donations to France to help them with Africa and the German army in Belgium when you can. Attack Austria with Russia and then secure the Balkans. After taking Istanbul, defeat the Ottoman navy and send your men across. Land, and conquer the Ottoman Empire. Guide: european-war-4.boards.net/thread/12179/italy-1914Bulgaria-You have some really strong allies surrounding you and some pretty weak enemies. Secure the Balkans and defend against the Italian army that should be coming. Afterwards, simply expand and take out the Russians and Italians
1 Star Countries Belgium- While it would seem that it's a pretty hard nation to play as due to Germany having a army right at your door, it's not. Bribe Germany once and get France and the UK to join on turn 1. Place your best artillery general on the starting artillery and prepare for the German attack. After beating it with the help of your allies, start producing light artillery and follow them. Steal cities that are left open and continue southward. The Germans and Ottomans get a wave of reinforcements in the Atlantic on turn 20 or 25 so you can send some units if you want but your the British navy should take them out. After capturing a few Austrian cities, research as many blasts as you can and continue taking cities. Lend-Lease allies and the rest of the conquest is easy.
Tribal Union- Trash units. Trash economy. Your only nearby enemy is France's outpost in Africa which will most likely not go down without a fight.
Montenegro- Thankfully the Austrian Navy can't bombard you otherwise it will be hell. You have the lighter side of the Austrian spam so if you beat the first few waves off, you can expand.
Romania- Spam is heavy and the Russians are near useless
Greece-You're in a tricky spot as you have the Ottomans to your right, the Bulgarians to the north and the Austrian navy to the west.Serbia- You're facing the entire might of the Austrian army. They will spam units and generals at you until you die. Not to mention the Ottomans and Bulgarians on your rear. Sure the Russians join on the next turn but they won't be able to save you. 1917 3 Star Countries Great Britain- You have access to almost every where on the map and can easily help your allies win their fronts. Your navy is also the largest in 1917 and is helpful in assisting you and allies. France German Empire Austrian Empire Ottomans
2 Star Countries Portugal Spain Italy Russia RSFSR- You have really good generals at the start and you only have one front with help from 3 major allies. Problem is you're all the way to the east meaning you will have to send a lot of lend-lease to the Iroquois or Canada for them to win their front.
1 Star Countries My recommended countries for completing AchievementsA keyword before the guide. These are only my recommendations and may not work for everyone. If you can't complete the conquest, ask for a guide or try different ones. That is all. Good Luck!
1861 3 Star: United States of America What better way than to follow history? When you're being pressured on 2 sides, your economy allows you to maintain each front. Your Mexican and French allies are extremely powerful and helpful. The UK and Canada don't join instantly and the Mexicans join in on turn 4. Push heavy into the Confederates before other countries join in. Hold them off with Militia spam until the Confederates have been taken care of. The French should've joined by and they should've been able to take care of South America. Send your army up north when the Confederates are gone and now it's just clean up.
2 Star: Mexico You really only have one front to take care of. The confederates are easy to kill off because they're fighting the US. Send some units to South America to assist the French and send your main army to Richmond. Push fast to try and save the US before the main British and Canadian army can ruin their day. They should be able to hold until you can defeat the Confederates and reinforce the front. Prepare a small army of artillery on the West Coast to deal with the Canadians and Iroquois.
1 Star: Cuba As long as you deal with the Spanish, the conquest is easy. Defend until you can kill of the Spanish spam and push back. The French will join and may assist you with some units. Take the Spanish cities and send donations to your allies. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1865 3 Star: France The conquest is pretty easy and fun. You already have good armies facing all the fronts. Place your generals and go to town with them. Not to mention you have really good allies such as Italy and Austria. The conquest is pretty straight forward. Take care of your surrounding enemies and push into the UK when Spain, Bavaria, and the German Confederation are defeated.
2 Star: Spanish Empire The initial spam may be pretty harsh but as long as you beat it off, the conquest is easy. Use your navy to raid the Portuguese cities and take them with your army. Hold the French spam off with Militia and weaken them. Once you defeat the Portuguese, start building better units and push into France. Italy is annoying as you can't send your Armored units over the mountain but enough artillery will bring them down. Donate to allies when you don't need to build any units and take down France together with the Brits and Canadians.
1 Star: Bavaria Your smack between Austria and France. Not pretty. Hold the French off with militia until the German Federation can join in to help you. Prussia will assist you in taking out Austria by taking some heat and dealing a lot of damage. You will have the most impact in this game because you can take out two really powerful countries down. Italy will join eventually but by then, you should've been able to kill of the French spam and take some Austrian cities. Spam artillery to kill off their units. The Ottomans will join in and will have a relatively easy time in the Balkans because you distracted the Austrians. Now the big problem is Russia. By the time they join, you should've been able to cripple Austria. The Prussians will take the majority of the hit allowing you to attack the weaker side of Russia. As long as you can gain a decent foothold, the conquest is winnable. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1914: 3 Star: UK You have a really good navy and an army already prepared to land. Because you have a body of water called the glorious English Channel, you're safe from the Germans. Land in Normandy (Where have I seen this before) and push into Belgium with the French. The French and Belgium will take the brunt of the attack allowing you to land safely. Push together with French to kill the German attack. Each unit you take out hurts Germany a lot due to their crippling population cap. Their cities should be empty as they can't afford to build any units meaning as long as the initial wave is killed, Germany is fresh meat. If you push into Germany quick enough, you can save the Russians from loosing a lot of men and allowing them to reinforce the Austrian front which will be the next problem. This part of the conquest is really fun as Germany and Austria are being pushed in by France, Britain, Russia, and Italy. Your army should be big enough to take down Austria and now go to the blood bath in the Balkans. The Balkans will be a complete mess of units from all different countries battling it out. Donate to Russia to allow them to hold off the Ottomans. Taking Istanbul will be extremely important as it allows you to build units inside the Ottoman empire without having to cross the river. Spam Artillery and win the conquest. (P.S, there's scripted enemy reinforcements in the Atlantic at around turn 20 so be ready for that)
2 Star: Italy The Austrians are not fun so attack Germany instead. Steal as many cities while holding off the Austrians with militia and artillery. The British and French reinforcements will allow you to take a lot of cities and prepare you for Austria. You're relatively safe as the only immediate threat is Austria which as long as you kill off the initial spam, you're safe. Use your artillery to destroy or weaken the Austrian navy. The British have a fleet to help you with Austria and the Ottomans. Your army should be a decent size when you invade Austria. They should be weakened as the Russians are attacking from the East allowing you to attack easily. You're in a pretty good position as you can take down three powerful countries with relative safety.
1 Star: Belgium Belgium??? Yes Belgium. While it looks scary and hard as the Germans have a big army ready to take you down, it's not. The UK and France have an equal if not greater army ready to help you out. You have enough money to get France and Britain to join in instantly and to delay the Germans. This will give them time to move to the front to assist you. When the timer runs out and Germany attacks, there should be an allied army ready to fight back. Spam militia until the spam is killed off and now push into Germany. As stated before, they have a crippling population cap which means they can't produce many units allowing you steal cities one by one. You only have one way to go, FORWARD!!! When you take down Germany, Austria should be in a pretty big pickle as the Entente have a big army ready to invade. You will eventually take down Austria and now it's time for *shudder* the Balkans. I'm sure you're already familiar with the blood bath down there. Take Istanbul and produce Artillery and Cavalry on the other side. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1917: 3 Star: 2 Star: 1 Star: Maybe it's just me, but RSFSR is always ridiculously difficult for me. The Eastern Front is easy sure, but even lending to the Canadians and Iroquois never seems to help. Me and my allies tear through the western front, but then everyone gets stuck in a stalemate in the Atlantic.

Me and my allies tear through the western front, but then everyone gets stuck in a stalemate in the Atlantic. i think these rankings are outdated, like for 1914, belgium is not easy, it's one of the harder ones. i think i completed that with tribal union but their units are trash. you're better off trying one of the balkan nations like serbia or greece if you know what you are doing

Belgium is possibly much harder now because Germanys population limit has been increased so that they don’t get 0 resources at the start. Germany used to be a joke to beat since they had such a massive population overload that they couldn’t spawn anything.

Storm forts isn’t useless. It’s just suboptimal. Plus artillery sort of sucks for anything other than that.

The annoying thing is that Europe as the Soviets is easy, given your allies and the generals you have to start with. But I always fail because my allies over in America waste the money I lend them :/

Belgium 1917 is definitely the hardest for me of all the conquests. Has anyone managed to do it? I have done all the normal (non challenge) conquests, but just cannot do Belgium, no matter what strategy I use. I have tried everything: trying to blitz Germany, taking Spain as a defensive base, going to the Balkans to help Serbia/Montenegro, going to North Africa, staying defensive, etc. Perhaps I should try going to the Americas before returning to Europe?
ps: first post here so hello everyone! I have been playing ET games for quite some time, and also reading the excellent content on this forum

Are you referring to the challenge or non-challenge conquest? I don't think the American strategy would work, since you have to spend around 10 turns just to slowly crawl to Canada, and by then your American allies would have crumbled pretty significantly, not to mention that this is assuming that you can hold Belgium for so long.

Blitzing Germany might work. Perhaps try to buy Germany off through bribing em, and then camp around Berlin. The morale loss might help your French allies defeat the German generals surrounding your capital city

Thanks! Just the non challenge... I dont even want to think about Belgium 1917 in conquest challenge lol! Indeed going to America was a fail. Most successful so far is to send the two starting generals to Spain, I manage to take Madrid and a few smaller cities, while leaving Hinderburg + Lee to defend Brussels (and then they flee for refuge to the UK when armageddon comes). I built 2 armored cars in Madrid with my best cav generals, the plan was to send them through Africa to take Egypt, Ottoman etc, which I have successfully done before. But I just could not hold Madrid long enough.

Yeah, I have failed doing this in the past but will try it again a few times. The problem is I cannot hold any city for more than 1 or 2 turns max. It’s like 1 militia vs the entire German army + USSR + Austria-Hungary. Also the lack of gold means I cannot even build a militia each turn, or perhaps one for one city but then the other ones fall. If I send my strong generals to take cities they attract aggro and get killed, if I use them to defend cities they also get axed...
And btw I am playing with maxed tech and maxed gens.
